2021: Ukraine approves law on electronic courts
At the end of April 2021, the Verkhovna Rada approved the bill on the Unified Judicial Information and Telecommunications System (ECITS). According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, this initiative has become one of the main steps towards the introduction of electronic legal proceedings in the country. 2020: Arrest of an official for extracting cryptocurrency at the workplace
At the end of February 2020, it became known about the detention of one of the heads of the IT department of the Information Judicial Systems State Judicial Administration of Ukraine (GSA). At the workplace, he used equipment for cryptocurrency mining, and also leased server capacities.
The Kiev prosecutor's office, according to its press service, sent a case against the official to the court. According to the investigation, the accused, abusing his official position, used for his own needs network and system equipment designed to ensure the sustainable functioning of the Unified State Register of Judicial Decisions, the Judicial Power portal and was introduced into the work of the Unified Judicial Information and Telecommunications System.
Using official computer equipment from January to May 2018, he was engaged in cryptocurrency mining using malicious software. In addition, for the placement and administration of third-party sites on GSA servers, the official received a monetary reward. As a result, until August 2018, three online stores and a site dedicated to chopper motorcycles were located on the equipment of the judicial state administration. Access to them was provided using IP addresses and the communication channel of the GSA of Ukraine.
An employee of the State Judicial Administration is accused of illegal interference with computers and computer networks and the distribution of malicious software. If he is found guilty, he, according to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, faces up to 6 years in prison and a ban on working in state institutions.
By the end of February 2020, the pre-trial investigation was completed. The indictment was sent to the Pechersk District Court of Kiev for consideration in court.[1]
