2021: Apax Partners and Warburg Pincus bought T-Mobile Netherlands for €5.1 billion
In early September 2021, Tele2 and Deutsche Telekom agreed to sell T-Mobile Netherlands to Apax Partners and Warburg Pincus. The value of the transaction amounted to €5.1 billion.
As of September 7, 2021, Tele2 owns a 25% stake in T-Mobile Netherlands, and the transaction involves receiving €860 million. The company's board of directors intends to offer an extraordinary dividend of at least €1.08 per share before the completion of the transaction and receipt of funds.
Meanwhile, Deutsche Telekom, which owns a 75% stake in T-Mobile Netherlands, says the deal marks the end of a strategic review of the company, which was announced at the bottom of the capital markets in May 2021 and follows the sale of the Dutch mobile tower business for €0.7 billion in early 2021.
We are very pleased with the development of our strategic ownership of T-Mobile Netherlands over the past few years. I am proud of the achievements of our colleagues in the Netherlands and am sure that together with Apax and Warburg Pincus they will be able to progress even further. This successful sale will complete the international consolidation of Tele2, and now we will continue our strategy aimed at focusing on our main operations in Sweden and the Baltic countries, "said Tele2 President and CEO Kjell Johnsen. |
After the transaction closes, Telekom will receive approximately €3.8 billion in cash from the transaction and deconsolidize T-Mobile Netherlands, whose revenue amounted to €2 million, and adjusted EBITDA Al - €582 million for the year to June 30, 2021.
According to Torsten Langheim, a member of the board for the United States and the development of the Deutsche Telekom group responsible for T-Mobile Netherlands, it was noted that thanks to the target value creation plan and the unique mentality of T-Mobile Netherlands, Deutsche Telekom successfully turned T-Mobile Netherlands into the fastest growing operator in Europe.
T-Mobile Netherlands CEO Søren Abildgaard, added that the company has come a long way to reposition T-Mobile NL as a winning player, innovating and changing the market, becoming the first mobile operator to offer unlimited communications and nationwide 5G in the Netherlands.[1]
