Netflix buys Warner Bros. movie studios and streaming Discovery for $72 billion - the largest deal in the history of the company
Total value of Warner Bros. Discovery is estimated at $82.7 billion.
Warner Bros. shareholders will receive $27.75 per share (cash and securities Netflix).
Before closing the deal, Warner Bros. will spin off its cable division (CNN, TBS, TNT). Completion of the transaction is expected in the third quarter of 2026.
The purchase gives Netflix control of HBO, studios in Burbank and a huge library of content, including The Sopranos, The White Lotus and Harry Potter.
Announcement of split into two companies: streaming with film studios and television projects
In June 2025, the American media corporation Warner Bros. Discovery announced it was splitting the business into two independent public companies. This step will fully realize the potential of each of the business areas. One of the companies will combine streaming and film studios, the composition will include:
- Warner Bros. Television,
- Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group,
- DC Studios,
- HBO и HBO Max.
The second will run TV brands - CNN, TNT Sports in the US and Discovery, leading free-to-air channels in Europe and digital products.[1]
