2022: Atlantia bought Yunex Traffic for $1.1 billion
In mid-January 2022, Atlantia bought the Yunex Traffic traffic management solution business from Siemens. The deal is estimated at $1.1 billion, it is planned to close by September 2022.
Atlantia, controlled by the Benetton family, in 2020 entered into a deal to sell its Italian road division Autostrade per l'Italia to end the dispute caused by the deadly collapse of a road bridge operated by Autostrade in Genoa. By the end of March 2022, the sale of Autostrade is expected to add about 8.2 billion euros to the Atlantia treasury, some of which will be used for expansion in new sectors.
The purchase of Yunex Traffic will provide savings and new opportunities for Atlantia's business when integrating with its existing assets, the company said in a statement.
We aim to ensure the synergy of operations and growth between our assets and Yunex... in managing infrastructure, services and technological innovation to improve travel quality, "said Atlantia CEO Carlo Bertazzo. |
The Italian company Atlantia owns toll highway groups, including the Spanish group Abertis, operates Rome airports and controls the digital fare company Telepass.
Representatives of Atlantia hope to expand their business in urban areas thanks to Yunex, they added that the German company can enter countries where the Italian group has a significant influence.
We are certainly looking to expand the business of Yunex Traffic in countries of interest, such as Italy, France and Spain, "said Atlantia CEO, adding that the sector of intelligent transport systems can bring business value of about 1.5 billion euros per year in these three countries.[1] |
