Experts named the main trends in the development of transport infrastructure in 2021
The concept of "15-minute city," once proposed by the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, is gradually gaining popularity. The main task is to enable each resident to get to work, a hospital and other important social facilities in 15 minutes, Smart Cities Dive reported in December 2020.
The trend towards electrification of all types of transport in megacities will continue to develop next year. The electric motor will acquire not only scooters and crossovers, but also even aircraft and motor boats.
Startups to create digital counterparts of urban space will be in particular demand. The virtual model of the city allows you to test the innovations in advance, calculate the costs, quickly notice the problem and eliminate it.

2019: Traffic management software and equipment sales totaled $30.6 billion
In early March 2020, analysts at ResearchAndMarkets published a study on the market for traffic management software and equipment. Sales of such solutions in 2019 amounted to $30.6 billion, and this figure is expected to grow to $57.9 billion by 2024.
In 2019, the traffic management technology market led hardware sales. The hardware segment is an important aspect of traffic management, and data collected by hardware devices forms the basis of intelligent traffic system functions. These devices include automatic vehicle identifiers, global positioning system (GPS) based automatic vehicle locators, sensors, and cameras.
However, it is assumed that in 2020-24. the segment of dynamic traffic control systems will grow fastest. They use simulation models combined with real-time traffic information to predict the impact of different traffic management strategies. This allows users to share information and manage traffic more efficiently.
It is assumed that this segment will develop fastest in the Asia-Pacific region, where almost 40% of the world's population lives. On the one hand, countries such as China, India and South Korea are growing rapidly and at the same time dealing with the problems of a demographic explosion, and on the other, in the same region there are small and high-tech states like Singapore and Japan, already ready to introduce new technologies.
Factors such as urban population growth and high demographics, government traffic management initiatives and public-private partnership working models are expected to contribute to further market growth.[1]
