History

2022: Unity bought Ziva Dynamics

The Grishin Robotics Foundation was the lead investor during the $7 million Ziva Dynamics sowing round, which took place in 2020.

The deal between Unity and Ziva Dynamics is the first exit for Dmitry Grishin's Grishin Robotics Fund II, which was announced in June 2020. Then the fund raised $100 million from institutional investors and was focused on investing in firms in the sowing and A rounds.

Unity plans to make Ziva tools available to all game developers and artists, regardless of skill level. According to the company, it will also "accelerate the process of translating Weta tools into 3D in real time through the cloud using machine learning capabilities." The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Ziva Dynamics software development studio creates software for simulating game and film characters. Ziva technologies allow users to create characters, animals or similar objects, such as tissue, and make them move realistically. CEO James Jacobs is the winner of the American Film Academy Award for Technical Success in Film. Jacobs participated in the development of technologies that were used in the creation of games such as Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, as well as motion pictures as "The Hobbit," "Game of Thrones," "Godzilla against Kong" and others.

Ziva is not the first digital tools purchased by Unity. Last year, Unity paid $1.6 billion to acquire Weta Digital instruments. The company also acquired tools such as SyncSketch to simplify collaboration.[1]

2020: Raising $7 million, including from the Dmitry Grishin Fund

On May 12, 2020, Ziva Dynamics announced the attraction of $7 million in investments. The funding round was headed by the co-founder's fund. Mail.ru Group Dmitry Grishin Grishin Robotics Other investors included Toyota  AI Ventures and Millennium Technology Value Partners New Horizons. The volume of investments of each of the funds is not specified.

Ziva Dynamics plans to direct the funds received to the hiring of new employees, marketing promotion of products and the development of the digital character system.  By the end of the year, the company intends to release an open Ziva architecture and a real-time platform. These technologies will allow characters in real time to fight rivals in a film or computer game.[2]

Grishin Robotics "believes in the convergence of cinema, animation and online game content," said Dmitry Grishin. According to him, Jacobs and Jernay Babrick greatly influence the film industry through their technologies for creating three-dimensional copies of characters from films. Grishin Robotics is pleased to collaborate "in developing standard character creation software for the fast-growing digital entertainment universe," added Grishin, whose words are quoted in a Ziva Dynamics press release.

According to Ziva Dynamics, the global video game market for game consoles in 2019 reached $47.9 billion.
