Biography

Alexander was born on February 20, 1959 in Krasnodar.

In 1982 he was educated at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

In 1985, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

From 1985 to 1992 he worked at the Institute of High Temperatures at the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1992, he took part in the creation of the Eurasmetal company.

1992: CEO of Evrazmetal

In 1992, he became CEO of Eurasmetal.


In 1995, the company gained control over the Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant, in 1999-2003 - over the Kuznetsk and West Siberian plants in Novokuznetsk.

Since 2005, he joined the Board of Directors of EVRAZ Group.

Until January 1, 2006, he worked as president of EVRAZ Group.

Until May 1, 2006, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In November 2006, Evraz announced that it was buying the American steel company Oregon Steel Mills for $2.3 billion[1]. The deal was completed in 2007.

Until December 2008 - Member of the Board of Directors of EVRAZ Group (without executive powers).

In December 2008, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVRAZ Group.

In 2011, Alexander Abramov was re-elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVRAZ Group.

As of April 15, 2018, Alexander Grigorievich Abramov is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVRAZ Group.

Aktivs

A major shareholder of EVRAZ Group. The company is one of the fifteen largest steel producers in the world.

On April 8, 2024, it became known that billionaires Alexander Abramov and Alexander Frolov agreed to withdraw from the capital of the ABC Vkusa grocery chain. At the same time, Bavero Group JSC, registered in the Perm Territory in 2023, becomes the new shareholder and investor of the company. Read more here.
