2015-2019
In 2015, Alexander Turchin was appointed assistant to the President of Belarus and chief inspector for the Gomel region. In 2016-2018, Turchin led the government apparatus, after which he took the post of first deputy prime minister. From December 2019 until his current appointment, he headed the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
2025: Appointment as Prime Minister of Belarus
In March 2025, the president Belarus Alexander Lukashenko appointed a new prime minister. Alexander Turchin, who previously headed the Minsk Regional Executive Committee since 2019, was approved for this post.
The new head of government replaced Roman Golovchenko in this position, who will now lead the National Bank of the Republic.
The President of Belarus explained the personnel changes by the fact that Roman Golovchenko "always wanted greater involvement of the bank and the banking system in the economy." Alexander Lukashenko described the appointment of Golovchenko to the post of head of the National Bank as "very important."
Roman Golovchenko has been prime minister since June 2020. Prior to that, he served as chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee of the republic.
At the first meeting in his new position, Alexander Turchin said that the main task of the government is to achieve balanced economic growth. According to him, the achievement of some economic indicators should not occur to the detriment of others. Finding the right mechanism in which all macroeconomic parameters will be balanced is an important and difficult task for the government to solve.
Personnel reshuffles in the government of Belarus take place after the presidential elections held on January 26, 2025. As noted, after the elections, the government traditionally resigned. On March 3, President Lukashenko made a number of personnel appointments in the government, while most of the ministers retained their posts.[1]
