2022: Falling under US sanctions
In February 2022, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against VK CEO Vladimir Kiriyenko, son of the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko. Sanctions were also imposed against Denis Bortnikov (son of the head of the FSBAlexander Bortnikov) and Pyotr Fradkov (son of ex-Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov).
According to the statement, the US authorities will freeze all property and other assets in the United States, including companies in which they directly or indirectly own 50% or more. American citizens and companies are forbidden to conduct any trade or financial transactions with individuals who have been sanctioned, otherwise "coercive measures" will be applied to them. The US Office of Foreign Assets Control will monitor compliance with sanctions.
Opinions, assumptions
There is reason to assume that after the acquisition of VTB by a controlling stake in Promstroybank and the renaming of the purchased structure to VTB Bank North-West, Denis Bortnikov initially planned a career in this company, and moved to Guta Bank to facilitate its upcoming takeover of VTB. However, Denis Bortnikov himself denies this.
