In 1992 he graduated from Blagoveschensky state medical the institute (since 1996 -) AGMA - Amur State Medical Academy of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation with a degree in medical medicine.

2005

Legislative Duma of the Khabarovsk Territory

In 2005, he was elected to the Legislative Duma of the Khabarovsk Territory, the LDPR faction.

From 2005 to 2011 he was the coordinator of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the Liberal Democratic Party.

2007: State Duma

In 2007, he was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the fifth convocation, the LDPR faction. He was deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Federation and Regional Policy.

In 2011, he was elected to the State Duma of the sixth convocation, the LDPR faction.

Since November 2015, he headed the Duma Committee on Health Protection.

In 2016, he became a deputy of the State Duma of the seventh convocation from single-mandate constituency No. 70 (Khabarovsk Territory - Komsomolsk single-mandate constituency). He was the first deputy chairman of the Duma committee on health protection.

2010: RAGS

In 2010 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (from September 20, 2010 - the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (RANEPA)). He defended his master's degree in economics in the direction of "State and Regional Administration."

2013: Defeat in the election of the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory

In 2013, he ran for the post of Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, took second place.

2018: Election as Governor of Khabarovsk Krai

September 23, 2018 by popular vote was elected governor of the Khabarovsk Territory.

2020: Detention on suspicion of organizing murders

On July 09, 2020, the Investigative Committee announced the detention of Sergei Furgal on suspicion of organizing the murders of several businessmen in 2004-2005. The head of the region is also checked for involvement in other especially serious crimes on the territory of the Khabarovsk, Primorsky Territories and the Amur Region.

The basis for the detention of the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal on suspicion of involvement in the murders of entrepreneurs was the testimony of those accused of these crimes.

2024: Recovery of 8.5 billion rubles by the Prosecutor General's Office

In December 2024, the Industrial District Court of Khabarovsk satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office to recover more than 8.5 billion rubles from the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal and companies associated with the Torex group. The prosecution considered that, while in the civil service, the ex-official received income from them, which he did not declare.

Sergei Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in prison. He was found guilty of organizing two murders and attempted murder of competitors in 2004-2005. The ex-governor does not admit guilt.
