A.G. Alexander Grigorievich graduated with honors from the pediatric faculty of the 2nd MOLGMI named after N.I. Pirogov. Within the walls of his native institute, he went from a clinical resident to a professor and head of the department of oncology and hematology of the pediatric faculty.

In 1991, with the participation of A.G. Rumyantsev, for the first time in the country, a course of pediatric hematology-oncology of the Federal Antimonopoly Service was organized to train and certify specialized pediatric specialists and identified fundamental and applied programs in the field of hematology-oncology, immunology and the development of cellular technologies in pediatrics. In 1991, Alexander Grigorievich organized and headed the new research institute of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation - the Institute of Pediatric Hematology (since 2005 - Federal Scientific and Clinical Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology named after D. Rogachev, Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation), which became the head institution in the Russian Federation for the development of programs for the diagnosis and treatment of hematological and oncological diseases in children and adolescents, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, clinical immunology and transfusion therapy. Under the leadership of A.G. Rumyantsev, for fifteen years, the departments of pediatric hematology-oncology at the bases of republican, regional and regional children's hospitals and specialized offices of children's clinics have been actively developing in Russia, a targeted program for the development and financing of the pediatric hematology-oncology industry has been prepared, adopted and implemented, and high results have been achieved in the treatment of leukemia, malignant lymphomas, brain tumors, and other neoplasms in children and adolescents.

The Department of Oncology and Hematology of the Pediatric Faculty conducts postgraduate training of doctors in clinical residency, primary specialization, certification and improvement in specialized specialties. The staff of the department developed and improved educational programs, published manuals for postgraduate training of doctors "Pediatric hematology and oncology," "Pediatric immunology" and many others.

As a researcher, A.G. Rumyantsev is known for his work in the field of pediatric hematology and immunology, medical ecology, intensive and outpatient pediatrics, adolescent medicine and health care organization, clinical physiology and pathophysiology of blood, regulation of hematopoiesis and immune response, pathogenesis and treatment of inherited and acquired blood diseases in children, intensive polychemotherapy and immunotherapy of leukemia. The most significant studies may include the development of methods for the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases in children, functional methods for evaluating blood and bone marrow cells in normal and pathology, the development and implementation of adjuvant methods of immunotherapy of leukemia and many other conditions.

Under his leadership, studies were carried out on the mechanism of action of incorporated radionuclides on the child's body as a result of the Chernobyl accident, he conducted research in the field of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of anemia, depression of hematopoiesis and hemoblastosis, organized and developed specialized assistance in the field of pediatric hematology-oncology in Russia, for the first time in Russia, co-operated groups were created to study the effectiveness of the treatment of acute leukemia, malignant lymphomas and brain tumors in children, a bank of umbilical cord stem cells for unrelated transplants in pediatrics and transplants of umbilical cord cells for children with primary immunodeficiencies, hematological and oncological diseases.

A.G. Rumyantsev is an active organizer of medical science and practice. For many years, he headed the RSMU scientific programs of the SCNT on human and animal leukemia and the research and development programs for the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, was a member of the Scientific Councils of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health of the USSR on pediatrics, hematology and oncology. From 1989 to the present - Chairman of the hematology section of the Moscow Society of Children's Doctors. He is a participant in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, the organizer of the Chernobyl Children Research Program in the USSR and Russia. From 1994 to 1997 he was deputy chairman of the board, from 1998 to the present he is a member of the board of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia. For 26 years (from 1978 to 2004) A.G. Rumyantsev - the chief freelance hematologist of Roszdrav, for 4 years (1987-1991) at the same time was the chief hematologist of the USSR Ministry of Health.

A.G. Rumyantsev is the author of more than 65 scientific papers, including 35 monographs and manuals, is a member of the scientific councils on pediatrics, hematology and transfusiology of the Ministry of Social Development of the Russian Federation, editor-in-chief of the journal "Questions of Hematology/Oncology and Immunopathology in Pediatrics," a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Pediatrics," "Russian Pediatric Journal," "Questions of Practical Pediatrics," "Pediatric Pharmacotherapy," "Questions of Diet Therapy in Pediatrics," "Russian messenger of perinatology and pediatrics", "School of health", "Hematology and transfusiology", "Transfusiology", "Russian Journal of Immunology", member of Pharmaceutical committee of the Russian Federation; prepared 52 doctors and 110 candidates of medical sciences. A.G. Rumyantsev is the chief pediatrician of the Moscow Department of Health, a member of the board of the Union of Pediatricians and the Medical Association of Russia, a member of international organizations of pediatricians, hematologists, pediatricians-oncologists. In December 1993 he was elected a corresponding member, in November 1995 - an academician of the biomedicine department of the Academy of Natural Sciences of the Russian Federation, since 1995 - a member of the New Iorca Academy of Sciences, since 1996 - a member of the American Association of Scientists. In 2012, he was elected Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
