Agrocomplex "Mushroom Rainbow"

  • Start of construction - 2016
  • Production launch - 2017
  • Location - Kursk region
  • Main owner - Aleksandr Udodov

Agrocomplex "Mushroom Rainbow" is the largest enterprise in Russia for the artificial cultivation of champignons. The project is being implemented within the framework of the state import substitution program, which started in 2015. Agriculture was one of the hardest hit areas by the import sanctions imposed in 2014. Experts estimated its dependence on imported components up to 90 percent for individual categories.

In particular, Poland supplied about 90 percent of champignons to Russia until 2014, therefore, in the sanctions era, after the ban on the import of these mushrooms, an unfilled niche formed on the market. Russian mushroom producers, which were represented mainly by small enterprises, could not meet the growing demand for these products. As of 2014, domestic enterprises of the mushroom sector saturated only eight percent of the market. For the most part, this was also due to low profitability, since the industry was heavily dependent on the import of components necessary for production - compost, cover soil and mycelium. Accordingly, growth opportunities could only be opened up with significant financial injections aimed at creating full-cycle production facilities.

Alexander Udodov decided to invest in this industry and build a high-tech mushroom enterprise that will carry out a full production cycle and control the sale of products through its own supply channels throughout the country. Today, Alexander Udodov's Mushroom Rainbow is the only structure in the industry built on the principle of vertical integration.

The company has organized its own production of compost and cover soil. Of the imported components - only mushroom substrate, mycelium. Its share in the total cost is small - about two percent. However, the company plans to master its manufacture. The authorities of the Kursk region, where the most favoured state operates for the mushroom enterprise, expressed their readiness to assist in this matter.

In 2018, just a year after its launch, Mushroom Rainbow took 20 percent of the domestic mushroom market. At the end of 2019, when the third production line was put into operation, the company's production capacity was 17 thousand tons annually.

The design capacity of the enterprise is 30 thousand tons of champignons per year. This volume will be achieved with the launch of the fourth production line, which is scheduled for 2020.

According to Kontur. Focus, the share in Udodov in Mushroom Rainbow as of mid-2021 is pledged by Sberbank. The revenue of this company in 2020 increased by 22%, amounting to 2.6 billion rubles. However, it ended the year with a net loss of 132.1 million rubles.

Balneological resort "Terma"

  • Co-owner - Aleksandr Udodov

The project of Alexander Udodov to restore the resort, located on a unique hot spring, today experts call the largest project in this segment of health tourism in recent years. According to official statistics, of the 3.5 thousand health resorts that existed in Soviet times, less than 1900 are currently left. The reasons are the lack of public funding and the weak interest of private capital in this industry. Compared to the Soviet period, the tourist flow decreased six times. However, the trend of recent years for a healthy lifestyle and state policy on import substitution have opened up new prospects for the industry. According to experts, the project of Alexander Udodov is an excellent example for other investors who still have doubts about investments in health tourism.

In fact, the businessman built a modern resort on the site where the Soviet health resort destroyed in the 90s was located. In the late 80s, the Solnechny boarding house belonged to the Belorechensky chemical plant and was built next to a thermal spring, which received the status of a natural monument on the basis of a rare medicinal chemical composition of water. A hot Kuban spring with highly mineralized compounds of iodine, bromine, silicon, boron and other elements contributed to the detoxification of the body. The Ministry of Health recommended the treatment of about hundreds of diseases with this water, including cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems, peripheral nervous system, skin diseases, digestive organs, female problems, etc.

After the collapse of the USSR, the boarding house left the subordination of the chemical plant and was left without funding. The restoration of the health resort began in 2016, when Alexander Udodov and his partners signed an agreement on the construction of a new thermal health resort on the site of the destroyed building.

In three years, the main hotel building, a balneocenter with two thermal indoor pools, was erected from scratch. The abandoned area was completely landscaped. At the same time, it was possible to preserve the old forest plantings of the foothills of the Caucasus and new trees were planted. At the suggestion of Alexander Udodov, a social pool with the same healing water as in the health resort was built next to the Terms. Here, at a reduced price, those who do not live in a boarding house take health baths.

The occupancy rate of the sanatorium, which began work in the fall of 2019, in the first two months was 60 percent. And for the November and New Year holidays, the load was already complete. The social pool is also in steady demand, with about 250 visitors a day, mostly of retirement age. A full-fledged course of treatment for this category of citizens does not exceed three thousand rubles (10-12 baths during the year).

According to partner Alexander Udodov and general director of the boarding house Andrei Astakhov, not only Russians, but also citizens of the states of the former USSR and foreigners visit Terma.

Alexander Udodov's project to restore the resort in the Krasnodar Territory meets the state strategy for the development of sanatorium and resort complexes and measures aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the health tourism industry.

Logistics company VG Cargo GmbH

  • Year of foundation - 2002
  • Purchase of a block of shares by Alexander Udodov - 2004
  • Location - Germany, Frankfurt Hahn Airport
  • The main owner is Alexander Udodov

Alexander Udodov acquired a controlling stake in the German logistics company for ground processing of aircraft cargo in 2004.

The businessman's investments were aimed at expanding the business. First of all, Udodov increased production capacity.

In 2006, the construction of a new modern building for storage facilities began, its area was 35 thousand square meters. It was equipped with modern safety and control systems and commissioned in 2007.

In addition, Udodov's company received special customs certificates that allow handling goods with a high cost, as well as undergo paperwork in a special mode on the German border. All these measures allowed the air cargo processor to significantly displace competitors due to the high speed of operation and expand the number of customers and international partner companies. In addition, Frankfurt Khan is the only airport operating around the clock, while located at the intersection of several European cargo arteries, so the logistics company's customers were offered comprehensive solutions for the uninterrupted supply of goods 24/7.

During the years of ownership of this company, Alexander Udodov actually turned a small German startup into a stable large structure - a leader in the segment of European companies engaged in the processing, storage and logistics of cargo. So, for example, in 2019, unlike colleagues in the industry, VG Cargo increased production indicators. Both the volume of processed goods and revenue increased, while other companies recorded a drop against the background of the general stagnation of the freight transportation market.

Compared to 2004, the number of employees increased by more than ten times, and the volume of processed goods increased almost six times.

The company is confident that by the end of 2020 Frankfurt Khan will become one of the three largest airports in Germany in terms of cargo turnover.

In October 2022, Alexander Udodov resigned from the company's shareholders.

Commercial Real Estate

Development projects make up an important part of Alexander Udodov's investment portfolio.

One of the first investments in commercial real estate was the construction of a shopping center in the north-west of Moscow in the mid-2000s. Alexander Udodov acquired a small trading platform and rebuilt it in a shopping center. The main criteria for the implementation of the project were to use the most convenient location of the trading platform and develop a convenient concept for buyers. As a result, in 2005, in walking distance from the Moscow metro station "Rechnoy Vokzal," the shopping center "U Rechnoy" appeared. Located along the path of the main route of residents of the district, which led to the metro, the shopping center attracted a large number of visitors. Another plus was the presence of points of provision of various services - in addition to the standard set of stores.

In 2010-2011, the success of the project was noted by the professional community:

  • Victory in the nomination "Current small shopping center" of the industry rating of shopping centers;
  • Victory in the nomination "Institutions of the consumer market and services" of the city review contest "City for all."

Residential real estate

In 2013, Alexander Udodov built a large Atlas shopping center in the Kaluga Region - the city of Obninsk. The object was built from the zero cycle, and provided not only the creation of a trading platform itself, but also a transport interchange. This need arose due to the location at the intersection of busy highways. As a result, the new interchange provided not only a convenient access to the trading platform, but also unloaded the highway, which was especially noted by local authorities when evaluating the project. In addition, the shopping center became for the city and an important leisure ground, since it operates the largest children's entertainment center in the region - "Chiland." Thanks to this center, the city has the opportunity to host foreign circus troupes and mobile zoos. In 2019, the investor sold a shopping center in Obninsk.

In 2015, Alexander Udodov implemented a similar concept of the shopping and entertainment center in a new facility, building an Atlas in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region - in the city of Dubki. There was also an emphasis on family leisure. In Dubki, in addition to shops and a food court, there is a large entertainment area for children, various entertainment and educational events are held. To work on the object, a well-known Russian architectural bureau was involved, specializing in the introduction of "smart" technologies in the creation of large commercial real estate objects.

Alexander Udodov also restarted two premium shopping centers in the capital - Gimenei and Yakimanka 26. The investor bought the buildings in which these centers are located from previous owners for the purpose of reconstruction.

In 2011, the businessman took up the conversion of Gimenei. A complete rebranding of the facility was carried out in accordance with the new concept of the shopping center of the highest price segment. The composition of tenants has also undergone major changes. A premium supermarket appeared in Gimenei, which occupied the entire first floor, and high-class offices were located on the third floor. Also in "Gimenei" opened exclusive boutiques of European brands.

In 2015, the investor's portfolio grew with another premium asset. The facility was named "Yakimanka 26" at its actual address. The reorganization of the trading platform required serious investments. In the building, it was necessary to replace engineering communications, the facade. Art Deco's style, chosen for this premium venue, required original approaches to design. The facade of the building was decorated with an antique architectural fragment specially delivered from the United States, in the center of which is the figure of the god Hermes. This part of the frieze previously belonged to the building of one of the iconic cultural sites of the American South.

In 2019, Alexander Udodov sold Gimenei and Yakimanka 26.
