Valery Vladimirovich BORISOV - People's Artist of Russia.

Biography

Born in Leningrad. In 1968 he graduated from the Choir School at the Leningrad Academic Chapel named after M. Glinka. Graduate of two faculties of the Leningrad Conservatory: choral conducting (1973) and opera and symphony conducting (1978).

In 1976-86, conductor of the M. Glinka Academic Chapel.

In 1988-2000, chief choirmaster and conductor of the Mariinsky Theater. He prepared with the choir of the Mariinsky Theater more than 70 works of opera, cantata-oratorio and symphonic genres.

Since 1996, associate professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, artistic director and conductor of the creative group "St. Petersburg - Mozarteum," uniting the Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, instrumentalists and vocalists.

Laureate of the Golden Sofit Prize (1999, 2003). With the troupe of the Mariinsky Theater (conductor Valery Gergiev) he made more than 20 recordings of Russian and foreign operas at Philips. He toured with the choir in New York, Lisbon, Baden-Baden, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Omaha.

In 2003, he took the post of chief choirmaster of the Bolshoi Theater. At the Bolshoi Theater, he prepared with the choir new productions of the operas "The Snow Maiden," "Adventures of the Rake," "Ruslan and Lyudmila," "Macbeth," "Mazepa," "Fiery Angel," "Flying Dutchman" (responsible choirmaster and conductor), "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk County," "Falstaff," "Children of Rosenthal," "Madame Butterfly," "Magic Flute," "War and Peace," "Eugene Onegin," "Nabucco," "Boris Godunov," "Carmen," "The Tale of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Virgin Mouse of Fevronia," "Zhuchek," Voyushdon " Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil.

In 2004, he first conducted at the Bolshoi Theater - Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin was chosen for the debut.

In 2005, the Bolshoi Theater Choir for the premieres of the 228th season - Macbeth and The Flying Dutchman - was awarded a special prize by the jury of the Golden Mask National Theater Award.
