Biography
February 28 (March 12), 1875 in the Kharkov province was born Vasily Rodionovich Petrov, Russian and Soviet singer (bass), People's Artist of the RSFSR.
As a child, he began to learn to play the violin and achieved significant success, but injured his finger. To earn money, he entered the bishop's choir. Then he became the soloist of the opera troupe of A. Sukhodolsky, in which he performed in Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don.
In 1898-1902, Petrov studied at the Moscow Conservatory (class of A.I. Bartsala). At first he performed on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater in opera performances of the conservatory. And in 1902 he became a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater and worked there for 35 years.
He performed a lot as a concert singer. During the First World War, he participated in charity concerts in favor of military units. After the revolution, he often sang in front of a student, working, soldier audience. He took part in the organization of public concerts.
In 1925-1929, Vasily Rodionovich was the vocal director of the Opera House. Stanislavsky, in 1935-1937 - the Opera Studio of the Bolshoi Theater.
Vasily Petrov died on May 4, 1937 in Moscow. He was buried at the Vvedensky cemetery.
