Release of the solution SASE
In June, 2020 Cisco entered the market of solutions for protection of peripheral calculations. It is about so-called boundary services of secure access of SASE (secure access service edge).
The term SASE was entered by analysts of Gartner for designation of the technologies combining network services and services of security — the program configured geographically distributed networks (SD-WAN), web gateways (SWG), brokers of secure access into a cloud (CASB), protection of DNS and cloud firewalls.
Though Cisco has a set of types of SD-WAN, the company had no SASE technology. With a release of the version of Cisco SD-WAN 17.2 it changed with a release of the solution Cisco SD-WAN + Umbrella. It represents solution integration for distributed networks of SD-WAN with cloud services of security of Umbrella Cloud Security. The cloud computing architecture of services of security Umbrella saves from need to manually build protection of network infrastructure separately for each branch of the company, the producer claims.
In addition to DNS addressing security Umbrella services began to perform functions of firewalling of new generation (NGFW). Via the vManage console of the solution SD-WAN each branch and mobile users can appoint the IB-special configuration the politician.
To COVID-19 pandemic interest in SASE was rather low. By estimates of analysts, implementation of these technologies in broad application was expected not earlier, than in 5-10 years. But the situation sharply changed after the outbreak of a coronavirus which led to mass transition to remote work and increase in load of communication channels and data processing centers.
The new solution of Cisco User Defined Network is intended for locations in which for the user access the single wireless network is used (campuses, hospitals, hotels , etc.).[1]

Cisco SD-WAN completely is based on an intelligent system of information security of Talos.
- Simplification of procedures of information security. Integration of the solutions Cisco SD-WAN and Cisco Umbrella allows to block the harmful addresses even before connection establishment.
- Functionality of applications. Cisco and Microsoft companies improved for users functionality of Microsoft Office application 365. Cisco SD-WAN in real time traces all available routes to a cloud of Microsoft Office 365 and defines the next cloud using the addresses Microsoft Office therefore high-speed performance for users increases up to 40%.
- Openness and programmability. Existence in the solution Cisco SD-WAN of open interfaces of application programming of API gives to partners and service providers an opportunity to create new services. For the aid to developers and network engineers in community Cisco DevNet the training laboratories on SD-WAN and "sandboxes" are open.
