2017: Cisco buys Viptela for $610 million
At the beginning of May, 2017 the American producer of network equipment Cisco announced purchase of Viptela for $610 million. At the expense of this transaction the buyer expects to strengthen positions in the field of cloud computing of SD-WAN.
It is going execute all formalities concerning sale of Viptela of Cisco corporation in the second half of 2017. Cisco will pay purchase from own means and remunerations in the form of equity participation.
Together Cisco and Viptela will be able to create solutions for the next generation of SD-WAN in the best way to satisfy all customer needs, at the same time accelerating transition of Cisco to a software business model — the vice president for corporate development of Cisco Rob Salvagno noted. |
Before purchase of Viptela from Cisco there were already two SD-WAN technologies: the local Cisco IWAN and cloud Cisco Meraki complemented with opportunities of the unified management of threats.
The source of the CRN edition says that merger of Viptela will allow Cisco to strengthen quickly positions in the SD-WAN market at which there are at least 23 producers.[1]
