2018: Cisco purchased Luxtera for $660 million
On December 18, 2018 Cisco announced purchase of Luxtera for $660 million to use optical chips of the absorbed company in all the portfolio of network equipment and to expand possibilities of switches 100GbE and 400GbE.
As the executive vice president and the head of division of Cisco Networking and Security David Goeckeler reported, the company buys semiconductor producer for satisfaction of the growing demand for the high-speed Internet caused by development of such technologies as Internet of Things and mobile applications.

Add to Cisco that acquisition of Luxtera will integrate possibilities of the companies in the field of optics 100GbE and 400GbE, silicon and technologies of processing that it was possible to create the innovation networks optimized taking into account performance, reliability and low expenses.
According to the CRN edition, merger of Luxtera will potentially give to Cisco advantage in machine output how clients pass to cheaper devices and refuse expensive branded equipment.
Close the transaction on sale of Luxtera of Cisco company it is going to close in the third quarter 2019 financial year. Luxtera will be a part of division which is directed by David Gekeler.[1]
