Elekta Unity

Elekta Unity is called a producer the only device for magnetic and resonant radiation therapy combining the premium class MRT-scanner (1.5 Tesla) with the advanced linear particle accelerator and the intellectual software. It is expected that Elekta Unity will be able to provide high-quality visualization at decrease in a dose of radiation that will allow clinical physicians to estimate growth of a tumor in time and as appropriate to adapt treatment.

Image acquisition in real time at each session of therapy in Unity forms and arrangements of a tumor and a status of nearby healthy fabrics will allow to adapt treatment depending on the size. Daily visualization will help to localize a tumor and radiotheraphy that will lower the general dose and will save healthy fabric about radiations.

Improvement of differentiation of different types of fabrics should help at radiation therapy of tumors of soft fabrics which are difficult for distinguishing from nearby healthy fabrics and bodies. Besides, functional MRT provides data on cellular activity in tumoral fabric according to which it is possible to estimate reaction of a tumor to therapy at the earliest stages of treatment. The response of a malignant new growth to therapy or its absence allows clinical physicians to change the plan of treatment as required, it is told on the website of Elekta.

Elekta says that Unity can support use of higher doses distributed on the smaller number of sessions that will allow to conduct shorter and effective courses of treatment.

2017: Release delay

At the end of November, 2017 the Swedish company Elekta which is engaged in production of devices for radiotheraphy postponed the output of the new flagman MRT-device Unity. Elekta stated that the device expects necessary certification according to regulations of the EU on health protection and security which will pass not at the end of 2017, and in the first half of 2018.^[1]

Before announcing a delay of commercial release of Unity, the Elekta company was going to release 75 copies of this product by the end of 2019. The new plan in the company is not called.
