2020: Development of Lovot together with Konica Minolta
Konica Minolta and the Japanese startup of Groove X jointly work on development of the home LOVOT robot partner. It became known on September 9, 2020. The companies use artificial intelligence technology and Internet of Things for improvement of its physical expressiveness.
The LOVOT robot was developed by GROOVE X company in 2019. He resembles a soft toy superficially, and on behavior – the living being. It becomes possible thanks to 10 cores of the processor, 20 microcontrollers and also more, than to 50 sensors.
The main objective of the robot – to give joy and pleasant emotions. LOVOT interacts with Wednesday by means of artificial intelligence and machine learning, processing external stimuluses. The robot quickly "recognizes" the owner, and his actions change depending on behavior of the person – for example, he can begin "laugh" if to tickle it.
Konica Minolta and GROOVE X jointly work on technologies of image processing which will help to make communication between LOVOT and the user simpler. Konica Minolta suggested to implement the models of deep learning for recognition of gestures and objects based on developments of the company in the field of optics and also productions of photo and video cameras. Besides, the company created the built-in systems of AI in which programmable logic integrated circuits (FPGA) for setup of the robot are used.
For recognition by the robot of gestures and objects NNgen, the compiler with the open code developed by Konica Minolta company together with the University of Tokyo can be used. It provides fast processing of models of deep learning, ready to start.
As a result of LOVOT "understands" actions of the person even better. For example, the robot can distinguish a raising of a hand and repeat this action after the user.
