Demonstration of a system for movement of pilotless trucks in a motorcade
In the middle of November, 2019 Hyundai provided a system for movement of pilotless trucks in a motorcade. The project became a part of the national Korean study program supported by public institutions, corporations and scientific institutes.
It was held demonstrations on "smart" Yochzhu Highway — the test route 7.7 km long founded by the Korean government for development of systems of pilotless driving. On it is mute within tests conditions of the real freeway with a permanent flow of vehicles are imitated.
A new system for pilotless movement of motorcades allows trucks to follow closely one after another without participation of the driver. Hyundai Motor successfully showed a possibility of the coordinate movement of pilotless trucks between which other cars, simultaneous emergency brake application and also data exchange between vehicles are periodically built in (V2V technology).
A system is activated when the driver of the second truck approaches the leader and the coordination mode includes. At activation of the mode of a motorcade the slave truck maintains a distance in 16.7 m and adapts to acceleration and braking of the leading truck. Besides, in the mode of a motorcade the system of deduction in a lane is activated. When the leading truck for any reason suddenly stops, a system also slows down and stops the slave car.
The system of the movement of a pilotless motorcade provides a set of advantages. The similar type of coordination allows to relax to the driver of the slave vehicle, reduces fatigue on the way and increases traffic safety. Besides, a system reduces costs of fuel and reduces emission of exhaust gases in the atmosphere. Besides, this economic offer which is designed to increase efficiency of commercial cargo transportation.[1]
Agreement of "Yandex" with Hyundai Mobis
"Yandex" announced in March, 2019 agreement signature about cooperation with division of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Mobis. Terms of the contract provide collaboration in creation of a hardware and software system for unmanned vehicles of the fourth and fifth levels of autonomy. Technologies of "Yandex" – first of all machine learning and computer vision will be its cornerstone.
The agreement also provides cooperation increase between the companies, for example, use of speech, navigation and cartographic and other technologies of "Yandex" in joint products.
At the first stage of cooperation "Yandex" and Hyundai Mobis intend to develop new prototypes of pilotless machines on the basis of the production Hyundai and Kia cars. In the long term the new hardware and software system is going to be offered car makers who will be able to use it for creation of unmanned vehicles, including for the carsharing companies and services of the taxi.
As explained CNews in "Yandex", the first prototypes of new UAVs based on Hyundai and Kia will be shown until the end of 2019. Does not open the parts concerning the potential cost of a hardware and software system, the Russian IT giant.
