2021: Concussion Sensor Testing

The startup JarHead, which is part of the TechnoSpark group of companies of the Infrastructure and Educational Programs Fund of the Rusnano Group, conducted successful tests of the sensor on a special dummy, which provides timely diagnosis of head injuries in hockey players, boxers, cyclists and representatives of other sports. This was reported by Rusnano on October 25, 2021.

Testing of a concussion sensor took place at a hockey training session.

The JarHead sensor automatically detects the force of the impact and signals the danger to the player. The sensor is attached to the helmet, provides a light signal and sends a message about the state of the athlete to the mobile application on the smartphones of the doctor and trainer with a special application, if the athlete receives a blow, the force of which is sufficient for concussion.

For testing, the sensor was attached to the dummy, at the top of the hockey helmet. Professional hockey players made a series of strong shots, which were carried out with an eye to the Vizor and frontal part of the helmet.

The company was satisfied with the test results. The system worked steadily, recording and analyzing all hits on the helmet, including those dangerous to health and life. After each blow, the result immediately went to the laptop with a special program. This means that the system helps to diagnose concussions in a timely manner.

Concussions are an acute problem in sports. As of October 2021, they identify only subjectively in the clinical picture. This is done by the coach, doctor or the player himself. At the same time, untimely diagnosis leads to serious health problems.
