2019: Beginning of use
On July 18, 2019 the ship of US Navy in the Persian Gulf used the new system of destruction of UAVs to bring down the Iranian drone which flew at the height of one thousand meters. According to military, the UAV posed a threat for the American ship, and therefore was immediately destroyed.
The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that the universal landing Boxer ship moved through the Strait of Hormuz when the UAV approached him and "hung up within a dangerous range" that induced crew of the ship to take "defensive measures". Iran disproves news and claims that it did not lose the UAV.
It is supposed that marines onboard USS Boxer used a new system under the name LMADIS (Light Marine Air Defense Integrated System) — the integrated system of easy sea air defense. A system is installed on the MRZR Polaris vehicle. In the publication USNI News it is said that it "the first known use of power weapon of new generation" from the USA.
A system consists of two nodes - "command" and "touch" which are equipped with radar sensors, cameras, radio-frequency sensors and mufflers. As soon as the crew reveals threat, it uses the muffler for blocking of the signals emitted by the drone. A system was already tested by land forces, and Naval Forces and marines began tests of a system by the ships at the beginning of 2019.
Incident occurred in a month after the Iranian military brought down the American espionage UAV in the same region. In recent years the American military began to treat more seriously the threats created by UAVs as in the market there were cheap commercial devices, and foreign military make more and more investments in development of these technologies.[1]
