2025: Start of Production
On April 19, 2025, AvtoVAZ JSC began industrial production of a new Lada Iskra car with fully Russian electronics and a localization level of more than 90%. The total investment in localization and launch of the new model amounted to ₽40 billion, which made it possible to create a car on a technologically independent platform.
According to the press service of AvtoVAZ, the solemn launch of production took place on the 55th anniversary of the release of the first car at the plant in Togliatti. As part of the ceremony, the first copies of the car came off the assembly line - a sedan in red and a station wagon in blue. Together with them, a white VAZ-2101 went to the guests, which symbolized the colors of the state flag of Russia and emphasized the continuity of generations of the domestic auto industry.
The plant in Togliatti is designed to produce up to 150 thousand Lada Iskra cars per year. To create a new model, AvtoVAZ adapted the modular CMF-B platform developed by Renault and Nissan, completely replaced electronic components with Russian counterparts and added about 400 new parts, ensuring technological independence of production.
President of AvtoVAZ JSC Maxim Sokolov stressed that in less than three years the company has managed to ensure the localization of the entire lineup of more than 90%. All parts are manufactured either at the factory itself, from supplier partners, or in friendly countries that are safe in terms of supply chains.
On the first day of production, 12 Lada Iskra cars were assembled in various modifications. The model is available in three body styles: sedan, station wagon and Cross station wagon. The car is equipped with three types of power units:
- A 90 hp 1.6-litre engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.
- 1.6-liter engine with 106 hp with a 6-speed manual transmission.
- 1.6-liter engine with 106 hp with automatic transmission.
The official start of sales of Lada Iskra is scheduled for July 20, 2025 - on the birthday of AvtoVAZ[1]
