2023: Car recall in Russia due to faulty software
On January 23, 2023, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) announced the recall of Lexus and Toyota cars. These are Toyota Camry, Corola, Lexus ES 200, ES 250, ES 350, GX 460, Hiace, LC 300, LC PRADO, LS 350, LS 500, LX 500D, LX 600, NX 250 and NX 350 models.
In total, 47,007 cars sold on the Russian market from November 28, 2020 to January 23, 2023 are subject to repair. The reason for the recall of vehicles: on cars subject to this recall campaign, due to the peculiarities of the data transmission module software, there is a possibility that in the event of a serious accident, the car will not be able to receive a callback from the automated emergency response information system in case of accidents.
Also, on some cars, there is a possibility that the most recent location data of the car may not be stored if the ignition is turned on within a few minutes after it is turned off. In such a situation, data on the location of the car may be incorrectly transmitted to the automated emergency response information system in case of accidents.
The data module will be reprogrammed on all cars. Authorized representatives of Toyota Motor will inform owners of vehicles subject to recall by sending letters and/or by phone about the need to provide a vehicle to the nearest dealership for repair work. At the same time, the owners can independently (on the Rosstandart website) determine whether their car falls under the recall.[1]

Lexus NX is being recalled in Russia due to a defective electronic "handbrake"
On September 20, 2022, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) announced the recall of new Lexus cars. We are talking about Lexus NX 250 and NX 350 models, the service campaign affected 419 copies.
Reasons to Recall Vehicles: Due to incorrect programming of the control computer, the lane tracking assistance system program value of the upper steering angle limit can be reached earlier than expected.
There is also a possibility that the electronic anti-skid control unit in the brake drive unit may falsely detect the current overload condition of the electronic parking brake drive and enter a safe mode in which the malfunction lamp is turned on, an information message is displayed on the multifunction display "Parking brake malfunction, contact the dealer" and the electronic parking brake drive is prevented from turning on or off.
All cars will reprogram the control computer with a lane tracking system and an anti-skid control unit.
Manufacturers' representatives must inform by mail or telephone the owners of cars subject to recall about the need to provide a vehicle to the nearest dealership for repair work.
Lexus NX cars sold in Russia from January 16 to September 20, 2022 are subject to recall. If the car falls under the recall program, the owner of such a car needs to contact the nearest dealership and agree on the time of the visit. All work will be carried out free of charge for owners.[2]
Recall of thousands of cars due to defective software
Japanese automaker Toyota in May 2022 announced the recall of cars from the Chinese market due to safety problems. This is stated in the statement of the main quality control body of the PRC.
The recall will affect 6,832 imported Lexus NX 260, NX 350h and NX 400h + models manufactured from March 31, 2021 to March 17, 2022 due to display system issues, the Market information State Regulatory Administration (SAMR) said in a statement.
Due to defects in the software, the multifunction display screen can misshift when changing gears or driving, which can distract the driver and lead to safety risks, the company said. A total of 2,589 imported Lexus NX 260, NX 350h and NX 400h + models produced between March 31, 2021 and January 28, 2022 will also be recalled due to problems with front shock absorbers.
Weld leaks on the front fenders of the vehicle, which attach the front shock absorbers, in extreme situations can disrupt the stability of the vehicle and also pose a potential safety risk, the statement said. The company said it would update the software's indication system management system for affected vehicles for free, as well as fix or replace defective front shock absorber parts.[3]
