On August 12, 2024, a wearable device for suppressing drones called "Meerikat-O/P" was presented in Russia. The development of this mobile electronic warfare complex (EW) is aimed at protecting military personnel from unmanned aerial vehicles, including FPV drones, which is especially important in modern combat conditions.

According to Rostec, Meerikat-O/P is a product of the Roselectronics holding, which is part of the state corporation. The device is at the final stage of testing, after which it is planned to begin mass production.

The Meerikat-O/P complex consists of two separate modules - detection and suppression, as well as a battery. The total weight of the system is only 2.75 kg, which allows it to be integrated into the equipment of the serviceman without limiting his mobility. The device can be mounted on clothing or body armor.

The Meerkat-O/P is capable of detecting enemy drones at a distance of at least 1 km and effectively suppressing them at a distance of 300 m, which ensures safety for the operator. The battery life of the device in detection mode reaches 12 hours, and in suppression mode - 1.5 hours.

Such equipment should become mandatory for wearing in the zone of active hostilities along with helmets and body armor. So we will be able to protect our guys in situations that were still often considered hopeless, - Natalya Kotlyar, Deputy General Director for Business Development of the Vector Research Institute, emphasized the importance of personal protection of military personnel from drone attacks.

The development of "Meerikat-O/P" began in 2024 and became an addition to the line of antidron products produced by the Research Institute "Vector." The launch of mass production of new products is expected.

According to the publication "Military Review," wearable electronic warfare systems are extremely in demand in the zone of a special military operation, where drones are actively used by both sides of the conflict. The situation has reached such a level that Ukrainian drones began to hunt for individual Russian servicemen.[1]
