2021: Announcement of technology for warning of pits on the road

In mid-August 2021, Mercedes-Benz introduced Car-to-X technology, which warns motorists about pits and other irregularities.

Updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class, S-Class and EQS models can detect pits and irregularities during movement. After registering one of them, if the Car-to-X Communication service is activated, this information is sent to the Mercedes-Benz Cloud in real time through the car's mobile telephone network. Other Mercedes-Benz models located in this area or nearby will be informed of the obstacle on the road, and pits or irregularities will be displayed with icons on the navigation screen. In addition, the car will sound about 10 seconds before the obstacle on the road is reached.

Mercedes-Benz cars learned to warn each other about pits on the road

Cars released by Mercedes-Benz since 2016 can receive warning information if they have a Mercedes me account and the Car-to-X Communication service is enabled. In these cars, the warning will contain (road accident in front), and in the new C-Class, S-Class and EQS - (Caution, pit!) Or (Attention, speed limit). These warnings are available in most markets worldwide in 36 different languages.

New models C-Class, S-Class and EQS detect pits when a certain threshold is reached during sharp compression and suspension release. A similar algorithm is used to detect irregularities at speed.

Mercedes-Benz also has another Car-to-X feature called Crosswind Assist. This system is activated in the event of a strong oncoming wind and helps the driver with targeted braking and steering. The Mercedes-Benz Cloud system also receives notification, warning drivers following from behind about a strong gust of wind on a certain section of the road.[1]
