2024: Naumen SAM 3.0 with import substitution reports

On June 6, 2024, Naumen released an updated version of the Naumen SAM 3.0 software asset management solution, designed to ensure transparency in purchased licenses and control the actual use of software.

What has changed in the 3.0 release:
1. Updated Software Catalog Structure
2. New Commercial Accounting and License Distribution Capabilities
3. New Connectors to Discovery Systems
4. Flexible inventory management data
5. License Compliance Reports in terms of Legal Persons of the organization
6. Import Substitution Reports

The updated version of Naumen SAM contains a modified software catalog structure, which now consists of the Vendor, Product Family, Product levels. Thanks to this, it has become more convenient to take into account licenses, build reports on licensing compliance, recognize installations in products with a specific metric, including, when normalizing, highlight internal development, paid and free editions. A connection with a single register of Russian programs was also implemented: for products, the catalog takes into account the registration number of the Ministry of Digital Development.

The updated commercial license accounting functionality allows you to flexibly manage software validity periods and avoid downtime, through centralization of the process and effective distribution of rights among employees to ensure optimal use of resources. The new types of purchases will allow you to detail the accounting of expenses and plan the budget more accurately.

This release has improved the accounting process for services purchased for various products and software versions. Previously, users manually associated each service with a separate license with a license pool, which complicated the process, increased the risk of entering incorrect information and duplication of data. Therefore, the ability to bind one service to several license pools at once has been added.

It became possible to take into account the type of license. This allows you to clearly understand what rights each license provides - be it a basic license, a technical support license, or a software update license.

To take into account software purchases in foreign currency, integration with the web service of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation with the ability to import the exchange rate of any currencies has been worked out. When accounting for contracts and purchases in foreign currency, the value will be automatically translated into your currency by the date of payment.

Ready-made Naumen SAM integrations with discovery and inventory systems allow you to automatically collect data on workstations, servers and software installed on them. In version 3.0, the list of ready-made connectors was expanded: OSC inventory, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Kaspersky Security Center, GLPI, AIDA64, Naumen Network Manager.

To manually enter inventory data, you added the ability to import such data from a file. And on circulation, for situations where users do not want to control the licensing compliance of unwanted devices or devices that have not polled discovery systems for a long time, the updated version of the product added the ability to set rules for importing inventory data into the system. Filtering takes place by device inventory date, device name.

In terms of reporting, it became possible to control the license compliance in the context of legal entities included in the holding or group of companies, validate the data before calculating the license compliance, and also calculate the compliance for a separate license pool.

To control the dynamics of the import substitution process, this release added online reporting, in which various sections analyze the costs, the number of rights and installations of domestic and foreign software.

2022: Naumen SAM exit

On September 29, 2022, Naumen announced the release of the organization's software asset management solution, Naumen SAM. The product provides complete transparency in the work with purchased commercial software and minimizes legal, financial and operational risks from its illegal or inappropriate use.

With the help of an IT system, medium and large companies can automate software lifecycle management - from purchase plans to write-offs. For example, keep records of existing licenses, manage contracts for the purchase and technical support of software, inventory equipment and software installed on it, and more. The solution is compatible with Linux-based operating systems.

Naumen allows you to plan software costs. Automation of license accounting makes it possible to quickly and reliably collect data on the actual use of software by internal users and purchase or renew only the required amount.
