2025: Obtaining a marketing authorization from Roszdravnadzor

The Papillon company developed, piloted and received a registration certificate from Roszdravnadzor for the production of a medical device - an automated verticalizer bed, which will allow equipping this complex with medical institutions throughout the country. The Skolkovo Foundation announced this on July 29, 2025.

The main quality of the Papillon bed is to improve the quality of rehabilitation of patients and reduce the burden on medical personnel. The product is represented by a line of four medical beds with 21 automated functions, including a verticalizer, anti-bedsores, turning the patient on his side, lifting the leg and dorsal sections, and others. The products are manufactured in Russia and are an import-substituting solution, superior in efficiency to foreign counterparts from the USA and Europe. Papillon beds are indispensable for hospitals, intensive care units, nursing homes and home use. They adapt to various medical tasks, replacing rotational, functional and rehabilitation models, as well as gurneys and anti-bedside mattresses.

The marketing authorization gives our resident a long-awaited opportunity to enter the market. Millions of people with disabilities will receive a Russian solution that will speed up recovery and improve the quality of life. In turn, the medical staff and loved ones will have a tool that will facilitate care, and hospitals will have an additional opportunity to improve the quality of medical services. Microgrants of the Skolkovo Foundation for the creation of a prototype, testing and protection of intellectual property, reimbursed customs payments helped the Papillon team to quickly finalize the product and overcome registration tests. A completely domestic line of functional rehabilitation beds with the prospect of import-substituting serial production is a huge step forward for our industry, "said Yulia Shcheglova, Director of Medical and Assistant Technologies at the Skolkovo Foundation (ВЭБ.РФ Group).

The Papillon bed has already been piloted in medical institutions in Novosibirsk and Moscow.

In the near future, the company plans to equip beds with a software and hardware complex for contactless monitoring of patients. This will allow you to effectively monitor the patient's condition and promptly notify doctors about a deviation in vital signs.

A team of professionals worked on the creation of the bed: design engineers, electronics specialists, practicing resuscitators and rehabilitologists, who regularly gave recommendations on the modernization of the product. We paid special attention to industrial design so that the product, in addition to its external attractiveness, is safe and convenient to use. So, for example, we reduced the size of the staff console, adapting it to the female hand, since more than 80% of the middle and junior medical staff are women. We are confident that the introduction of Papillon beds will be an important step towards modernizing medical services and improving the quality of life of patients in our country, "said Igor Mendzebrovsky, Development Director of Papillon LLC.

According to him, 21 positions are provided at the bed, it is possible to evenly distribute the patient's weight, preventing pressure sores. There are also verticalizer and automatic flip functions, which reduces the risk of developing complications associated with the patient's long stay in one position. With its help, the patient can do exercises, develop limbs and undergo long-term rotational therapy without unnecessary movements around the hospital and individual simulators. This will reduce the burden on doctors, the manager emphasized.

The bed is equipped with sockets and two control panels - for staff and for the patient. Fluid hooks, therapeutic arches and infusion posts can be added to it.

The bed will speed up and facilitate the rehabilitation of patients who turned out to be low mobility, for example, after a stroke, and ensure their mobility - they will be able to change positions, turn over, sit down without the help of doctors. According to Mendzebrowski, the developers already have more than 100 orders, and they are preparing to launch mass production of the device.

By August 2023, medical functional beds, like all medical furniture, are included in the so-called "Third Extra" list. Existing rules stipulate that a foreign company will not be able to participate in procurement if there are two Russian suppliers of similar products. Over the past two years in Russia, the localized production of multifunctional beds has been created at the Medstalkonstruktsiya plant (part of the MEGI Group of Companies) in Ufa, where about 1 billion rubles have been invested.[1]
