2021: Project Hazel Microphone and Speaker Respiratory Announcement

In mid-January 2021, Razer introduced a smart mask with a microphone and speaker. The new N95 reusable respiratory device is called Project Hazel and features a glossy outer shell of waterproof and scratch-resistant transparent plastic, which allows you to see the facial expressions of the speaker.

Razer said that a group of medical experts and scientists was involved in the development of the mask. Project Hazel uses removable and rechargeable disk-type fans that filter inhaled air, as well as exhaled CO2. The company adds that the mask filters 95 percent of the particles suspended in the air, including COVID-19 virus and other common pathogens. The durability of fan filters is still evaluated during the tests, but Razer has already announced that users will be notified of the need to change the filter through a mobile companion application.

Microphones and amplifiers built into the mask will project the user's voice so as not to muffle words. Razer works with THX sound engineers to find a balance between audibility and convenience. In addition, the mask is equipped with LEDs, the color of which can be selected by the user. At evening, a set of LEDs illuminating the user's mouth is automatically activated so that his interlocutors can see his facial expressions.

In general, the mask completely covers the nose and chin under silicone protection, and adjustable ear loops allow you to find the most convenient position. Razer said that each Project Hazel mask will be equipped with a large case with the function of recharging and sterilization with ultraviolet light, but so far it is under development. The release date and price of the mask are unknown.[1]
