Deliveries to children's clinics
In early August 2018, Rostec State Corporation announced that its Schwabe holding will begin supplying domestic ultrasound diagnostic equipment (ultrasound) to children's clinics in Russia.
According to a report on the Rostec website, a consortium of companies led by the Schwabe holding will annually produce 2500 multifunctional ultrasound machines RuSkan, which will be used in Russian medical institutions, including children's ones.
The project "Ruscan" was the result of the localization of the technology of the medical unit of South Korean Samsung, carried out by the NPO "Scanner" together with JSC "Kalugapribor" and "Schwabe" (all included in "Rostec"). The share of domestic components in Ruscan devices by August 2018 is estimated at about 50%. It is planned to increase the indicator.
Depending on the model, the RuScan is equipped with 21.5- and 19-inch high-resolution LCD monitors. Scanners are able to obtain volumetric 3D and 4D images and analyze tissue elasticity. The equipment can include specialized high-frequency sensors for working with both newborns and children under 18 years old.
The Schwabe company believes that Russian hospitals and clinics require about 10 thousand units of ultrasound equipment per year. The consortium is going to produce about 2.5 thousand devices annually, but in case of increased demand, production volumes will be increased, said Ivan Ozhgikhin, deputy general director of Schwabe.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the targeted program "Development of the material and technical base of children's clinics and children's polyclinic departments of medical organizations." Within the framework of this program, it is planned to improve the accessibility and quality of medical care for children and to equip medical institutions with modern equipment.
Schwabe expects to occupy at least 20% of the Russian market for ultrasound scanners, partially replacing the products of foreign manufacturers.[1]

Start of serial production
On April 25, 2018, Rostec State Corporation announced the start of mass production of Russian ultrasound scanner " Ruscan 50" and "Ruscan 60," which are designed to oust imported analogues from the market. Devices differ from foreign counterparts in the type of control panel and the increased number of ports for connecting sensors. In addition, the scanners are equipped with high-resolution LCD monitors: "RuScan 50" - 19-inch, and "RuScan60" - 21.5-inch. The functionality of devices allows you to obtain 3D/4D images and perform elastography.
At the first stage, it is planned to produce about 2500 devices per year with the possibility of expanding production with increasing demand.
According to Rostec, as of April 2018, Russian medical institutions are experiencing a shortage of ultrasound scanners: the real need for a health system is estimated at 10 thousand devices annually. Meanwhile, domestic healthcare every year buys about 3 thousand such devices from foreign suppliers. It is assumed that the capacity of the state corporation will allow to close most of the need for medical institutions in this equipment.
