2019: Announcement
At the beginning of May, 2019 the SRI International research company provided the robot police officer who is capable to check documents at drivers and to write out penalties. According to developers, this device can make such interactions by safer both for police, and for drivers.
The robot was created by the engineer of SRI International Rueben Brewer, having understood that work of peace officers on roads is far more dangerous, than it seems from outside. The robot police officer is not intended for replacement of real police officers, he only should ensure their safety. It fastens to the police car on a telescopic bar which allows it to approach a window of the driver of the stopped vehicle.
Using the webcam and the tablet fixed on the end of a bar, the police officer can communicate with the driver, without going out of the car and without subjecting the life to danger. The electronic assistant will undertake all tasks: will scan driver's licenses via the built-in reader of a barcode, and if necessary will print the receipt for payment of a penalty using the built-in printer. That the violator did not disappear, the robot will enclose under the car bottom a level with thorns.
Brewer enclosed in network of video with testing of the robot which he supplied with the following description: "Every year 17 million drivers stop police officers. 195,078 motorists at the same time used physical force, and 4,488 employees were attacked. Considering such danger of interaction between people on roads, perhaps, time to deliver between them the intermediary robot who cannot suffer came".
Brewer considers that his robot can not only secure police officers, but also is considerable reduce number of accidents.[1]
