Pilot launch, expert opinion
In July 2021, it became known about the launch of a pilot project to analyze the movements of tourists in order to create their digital profile. The initiative should become commercial.
As Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes with reference to the ABD, data on all movements of tourists will not be personified - they will not be tied to a specific person. The information is planned to be summarized in order to assess the state of the tourist infrastructure and find out what and where needs to be built. As conceived by the authors of the project, the digital profile of the tourist will help make as yet inaccessible habitats densely populated and economically developed.
Advisor to the President of the Russian Foundation for the Development of Information Technologies Vasily Ovchinnikov says that in Russia the negative side of the increase in the number of tourists to places "with improved infrastructure" is obvious: excessive anthropogenic load can scare away guests "looking for loneliness" in places of influx of organized tour groups.
According to Denis Burlakov, CEO of the fintech company RBK.money, the tourist's digital profile will be able to collect and process data from various sources that will give an objective picture, this project will definitely be in demand.
The project of the tourist's digital profile, which allows, based on the analysis of big data, to conclude where people come to relax and have fun, where they stay and make purchases, can be in demand in various areas, including retail, developers, transport workers, tourist business and government agencies, agrees Honorary President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Sergey Shpilko.
The main disadvantage and risk of the idea of introducing a tourist's digital profile lies in the use of personal data, comments lawyer Svetlana Petropolskaya. As an alternative, it would be possible to propose not mandatory data collection, but to think about creating such a service in which tourists themselves will leave reviews and wishes for improving the service, share ideas, because today there are few people indifferent to public attention, expert Maxim Mezhenkov, interviewed by the newspaper, offers.[1]
Creating a digital profile of a tourist in Russia
On April 5, 2021, it became known about the creation of a digital tourist profile in Russia. This project is being handled by the Big Data Association.
According to RBC, its executive director Alexei Neiman, using impersonal data from telecom companies, banks, fiscal data operators, carriers, tour operators, social networks and sites with reviews, it is planned to determine the needs of tourists in a particular region and identify their unrealized demand.
For example, information on travel expenses, travel geodata, lists of visited attractions, cafes and hotels will help the authorities pay attention to the "weak points" of resorts and create the necessary infrastructure. At the same time, the data of the Russians will be impersonal.
The project of the tourist's digital profile is designed to increase the efficiency of the Russian infrastructure - both in terms of the development of domestic tourism and in terms of attracting foreign travelers. Data from the banking sector can become key in creating a portrait of a tourist, since it is banks that see what travelers "vote with the ruble" for - what destinations they choose, in which categories of hotels they are ready to place, what types of transport they use and what types of entertainment they prefer.
It is assumed that impersonal banking data will allow the state and business to understand how to develop certain territories - in terms of transport infrastructure, hotel segment, entertainment and catering industries.
In an ideal scenario, we will be able to give recommendations for point changes: train schedules, the number of flights for the convenience of tourists, the need to send a police patrol along such and such a route, because drunk people often gather there, and so on, "Neiman explained.[2] |
