Trukonf has developed a new version of its enterprise solution TrueConf Enterprise 1.6, which introduced distributed video conferencing technology, the company told TAdviser on March 13, 2024. It optimizes the transmission of video streams between several geographically distributed locations, allowing you to save on the Internet connection of branches, and, according to the developers, will make it possible to collect "full-fledged conferences" for 2 thousand or more participants in each without the so-called "cascading." The latter means when in some VKS systems the image of small conferences is reduced to one large one.

The company invested more than 100 million rubles in its development. Customers using TrueConf Enterprise will be able to get the new feature for free from May 1 when upgrading to version 1.6.

Until recently, Trukonf products used the technology of centralized VKS organization, in which all clients connected to one server. However, if there were multiple users in a branch or other remote location, the number of connections and thus video streams that were transmitted to the branch grew exponentially. The load on the video conferencing server also grew.

Trukonf engineers have developed a new technology for an existing solution - a special server that can be installed in each location and create a single videoconference space from several servers. At the same time, each server aggregates all video streams on the corresponding site and transfers them to other locations in a single instance. As a result, it is possible to achieve arithmetic growth of compounds depending on the number of participants.

The manufacturer claims that by aggregating video streams and distributing the load from the central server to several local ones, it is possible to reduce the load on communication channels between branches of companies by an order of magnitude. According to the estimates of Trukonf engineers, with the simultaneous participation of 2500 employees in parallel conferences, the load on network channels would be about 2 Gbps. And when using an aggregation mechanism in the same scenario, it will require about 250 Mbps.

To ensure security, the Trukonf solution has a special gateway for protecting VKS connections, which ensures the confidentiality of all video streams for one location.

2018: Dynamic License Lease + TrueConf Directory Extension

On September 5, 2018, TrueConf introduced the updated TrueConf Enterprise solution, a VKS solution for large companies.

Thanks to the presented solution, corporate customers will be able to refuse to purchase additional servers with paid licenses. Now the company's customers will be able to take advantage of the dynamic lease of licenses on the main VKS server of their organization, which will distribute paid licenses between additional servers depending on the load on the VKS network and the individual parameters of each branch specified in the restriction center for each individual TrueConf Server. This feature will allow customers to distribute the VKS load within their VPN network and improve the quality of conferences for local users, as well as significantly save on the cost of licenses.

In addition, so that subscribers of the distributed VKS network can find remote colleagues and see the hierarchical structure of user groups from other branches, departments or departments, TrueConf introduced the TrueConf Directory extension. The solution provides a group of Enterprise servers with automatic synchronization of information about all subscribers of the network, including those obtained from Active Directory directories. The presented version of the extension features a decentralized architecture, which is based on the exchange of secret keys and the use of APIs between a group of related TrueConf Servers.

The connection between users is realized through TrueConf servers through integration with LDAP and DNS servers. The user connects to his TrueConf Server, which has access to an LDAP server containing a replica of the global LDAP database.

The main components (as of March 2015) are:

• The DNS server contains the current addresses of the TC servers. DNS servers are available to clients and system servers.
• LDAP servers are combined into a system, together they support a global user directory.

Each TrueConf Server has access to its nearest LDAP server. LDAP changes are replicated between servers using directory tools - Microsoft Active Directory or 389 Directory. TrueConf servers store in the directory all the data necessary to communicate users of various TrueConf servers with each other. Users are added and edited in the system by standard LDAP directory tools, TrueConf Server uses this information from LDAP.
