In September 2024, Yandex announced a large-scale project to introduce its own electric bicycles for courier service in ten cities of Russia. The implementation of the initiative will begin in October 2024 and continue until the end of the year, which will significantly expand delivery opportunities in large settlements of the country.
According to Interfax, it is planned to bring several thousand electric bicycles to the streets of Russian cities. The exact number of vehicles will be determined after the launch of the project and can vary from 3 to 10 thousand units.
Yandex e-bikes are equipped with modern technologies, including the IoT (Internet of Things) module, which allows you to remotely adjust the speed of the vehicle. In addition, they have a luggage rack for a courier bag, built-in charging for a smartphone and heated battery, which allows them to be used at any time of the year.
The body of the bicycles is made of aluminum, and the seat is designed taking into account the need for comfortable movement over long distances. The first batch of 100 serial e-bikes was handed over to couriers to test and collect feedback back in February 2024.
E-bike rental will be available through a special section in the Yandex Pro application. The lease period will be from one week to a month. Although the exact cost of the lease has not yet been disclosed, company representatives assure that prices will be competitive and will not exceed the market level, which averages from ₽8 to ₽15 thousand per month.
The project will cover not only Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also other million-plus cities in Russia. This decision of Yandex continues the company's tendency to develop environmentally friendly modes of transport for courier delivery, which began in 2021 with the provision of couriers with the possibility of renting electric scooters.[1]

During the development, Yandex paid special attention to security. The e-bike is equipped with a module IoT (internet of things, "Internet things") that allows it to exchange with data. server This, in particular, allows you to automatically adjust the speed - a bicycle will not be able to exceed the speed limit set for this section of the city. Accumulator the bicycle is designed in compliance with all safety requirements, protected from spontaneous combustion and equipped with a monitoring system.
The e-bike can be used at any time of the year. The electronics and brakes are completely sealed, so he is not afraid of rain or snowfall. The first hundred serial bicycles will appear on the streets of Moscow in the winter of 2023 - couriers collaborating with Yandex services will be able to rent them. By autumn, Yandex 2024 plans to increase the number of bicycles to several thousand.
