Readiness of the platform under the center of proton radiation therapy

Rusatom Healthcare company it can is possible to start construction of the center of proton radiation therapy in Khabarovsk in 2019. The company management declared it on October 2, 2018 during the meeting which was held by the governor of Khabarovsk Krai Sergey Furgal with representatives of Rusatom Healthcare and Region group. Participants of a meeting also discussed funding mechanisms and the choice of equipment supplier for this project.

According to Rusatom Healthcare, the platform under an object is ready — the center of proton radiation therapy will be placed in the territory of edge clinical center of oncology. Construction, according to preliminary estimates, will take about two years then installation of equipment will begin. It is supposed that the center will be able to accept the first patients in 2023.

Sergey Furgal, in return, emphasized that such medical institution is necessary for the region. As of October, 2018 the similar center in Russia is only in St. Petersburg, and there is it in private hands.

Khabarovsk Krai was and remains the center of hi-tech medicine in the Far East. We have no doubts that the proton center should work for us and to be public institution. First, creation of such center will help to progress in the solution of presidential tasks of decline in mortality significantly. Secondly, Khabarovsk will become also the center of preparation and an attraction of qualified personnel. Many specialists will want to work in such organization — the head of the region is convinced.

The governor also charged to create the special working group which participants will bear responsibility for each stage of project implementation in the edge government.

The offer to sign the concessionary agreement about creation of the Center of proton radiation therapy

On September 6, 2018 the Rusatom Healthcare company (integrator of ROSATOM State Corporation in the field of radiation technologies in medicine) together with private investment group of Region companies sent to the Government of Khabarovsk Krai the offer on the conclusion of the concessionary agreement on creation of the Center of proton radiation therapy in Khabarovsk.

According to the document, for these purposes at the end of August, 2018 the "Center of Proton Radiation Therapy Far East" management company which is ready to implement the project on construction of the first proton center in the FEFD in 2022 was created. The project investment cost presumably will make over 4.5 billion rubles.

The medicine should become one of the priority directions for projects of public-private partnership, in our opinion. Investment into the project of construction of the proton center in Khabarovsk for us — not only the question lying in the business plane, but also social responsibility — Valeria Repkova, the vice president of Region Group noted.

Rendering medical services in proton radiation therapy to patients with different oncological diseases will be the main objective of the center. According to preliminary estimates Rusatom Healthcare, in a year will be able to accept such center to 800 patients from all Far Eastern Federal District.

We accepted the request from subsidiary of Rosatom — Rusatom Healthcare company, registered it and started consideration of conditions of accomplishment of such concessionary agreement. We in Khabarovsk have a center which does diagnosis of malignant tumors at the level of a cage, we lack an extreme link which this cage would treat. Protonnik also carries out this task — the Governor of Khabarovsk Krai Vyacheslav Shport commented on an event. As he added, with the advent of the proton center in Khabarovsk the construction of a cycle of organizations for creation of the center of nuclear medicine in the Far East will be completed.[1]

According to experts of Rusatom Healthcare, proton therapy provides the high accuracy of radiation that allows to protect adjacent healthy bodies and fabrics from additional radiation and at the same time to bring a heavy dose of ionizing radiation to a tumor. The feature of proton radiation consists that the main energy of beams is released in a certain point — section of body tissues. The doctor the radiologist carries out calculation so that energy was released in a tumor, repeating its outlines, with an accuracy of millimeter units. Thus, only the tumor collapses, and the healthy fabrics surrounding it are practically not affected. Besides, proton radiation therapy is an uncontested method of treatment of tumors at children, emphasized in the company.

According to the statement of the CEO of Rusatom Healthcare Denis Cherednichenko, construction of such center is vital for preserving of health at our children.

We cannot put at risk the future of kids, we are obliged not only to save them life, but also not to injure the internals which are in growth period. Radiation proton therapy is also intended for them, first of all — he emphasized.

Recently during the meeting with the President of Russia I reported to him on the project on construction of the center, and it supported us. It is sure, together with our partners from JSC Rusatom Healthcare and Region group we will create the center for world-class standards in Khabarovsk — Vyacheslav Shport concluded.[2]
