Cargo drones began to fly to the USA. They deliver analyses

Customers: United Parcel Service (UPS)

Contractors: Matternet
Product: Projects of use of UAVs (UAV drones)

Project date: 2019/03

On March 26, 2019 the United Parcel Service (UPS) company in partnership with the developer of Matternet drones began daily delivery of samples for analyses using cargo UAVs in the city of Roli (State of North Carolina). Affirms that it is the first similar project in the USA.

Delivery using the drone reduced time of transportation of important samples from half an hour to three minutes and 15 seconds. At the same time the initiative of UPS was the first method of use of drones which is really making profit. Developers consider that such program will help to prove to society the value of the new widely advertized technology, and delivery using UAV drones is capable to make an invaluable contribution to the global industry of health care, especially in zones of disasters or the remote areas.

UPS it is ready to make about 10 pilotless deliveries a day, but this number can shortly increase. Control of UAVs is provided by Federal Aviation Administration and the Ministry of Transport of Northern Carolina.

It is known that many companies tried to adjust the goods delivery using UAVs, but still nobody managed to gain from it steady income. Partly this problem is caused by state regulation – the government potential security risks which can arise because of failure of drones disturb. But in May, 2018 the U.S. Department of Transportation announced that the government is ready to work with private corporations for testing of technology of unmanned aerial vehicles. The department of transport of Northern Carolina working with UPS and Matternet companies was also included into this program.

The companies participating in the program are engaged in such areas as check of new types of aircrafts and runways at the airports, creation of airfields for drones and also delivery development of systems. From private companies Uber, FedEx, Intel and Qualcomm and also such startups as Airmap and Flirtey took part in the program. Amazon was not included into the state program.[1]
