New York buys 900 electric vehicles for officials

On January 4, 2023, New York authorities announced the purchase of more than 900 electric vehicles for public services. Such cars will replace cars with traditional internal combustion engines.

For the implementation of the initiative, the Ministry transport USA allocated a grant in the amount of $10.1 million. In addition to acquiring electric cars, the project provides for the installation of additional charging stations, which will provide a total of 315 ports. City services already use about 850 General Motors-built Chevrolet Bolt electric cars and more than 200 FordMustang Mach-E electric cars. The funding now received will allow the purchase of 382 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles, 360 Ford E-Transit vans, 150 Ford F-150 E-Lightning pickups, as well as 25 hybrid sweepers. Federal agencies increased purchases of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles fivefold in the 12 months ended September 30, 2022. By 2035, the federal government must abandon the acquisition of internal combustion engine machines altogether.

New York's charging infrastructure is also constantly evolving. It includes more than 1,360 ports, 120 fast charging stations and 106 freestanding solar-powered sheds. By mid-2024, it is planned to add about 600 more ports. The city's goal is to install 1,000 chargers by 2025 and 10,000 charging stations by 2030.[1]
