Contractors: Microsoft
Product: Microsoft Hololens

Project date: 2017/03  - 2017/09

Use of augmented reality will allow engineers of Ford to consider and bring together a large number of information connected with appearance, ergonomics, durability and safety of their vehicles.

In September, 2017 the car maker Ford announced that Microsoft HoloLens augmented rReality glasses will be used in design bureaus of the company to development of new models of machines.

Creation of the car demands from a team of designers of acceptance thousands of solutions which can be at the same time connected with appearance, ergonomics, durability and security. Bring all this information together and consider communications and dependences — a difficult task which augmented reality will help to solve. Using HoloLens developers completely do not refuse a traditional method of creation of models of cars from clay, but now they become more functional — over physical model it is possible to display layers with the additional information now. It will allow designers and engineers to estimate in real time as, for example, this or that part is perceived by a look of the client and influences the general esthetics of the car. If earlier on it several days or even weeks left, then using augmented reality similar information can be obtained during the day.

Augmented reality and Microsoft HoloLens will help designers of Ford to design cars

The combination of physical and virtual models of the car by means of HoloLens opens before developers and other opportunities. For example, one designer can leave for another the voice notes tied to specific points on the body, and their listening will be similarly personal demonstration. Or all command can organize a meeting around the model of the car and on site discuss options of design of rear-view mirrors or a radiator grid, making changes in them directly on the discussion course.
