2025: Develop a solution for analyzing network traffic at speeds up to 5 Tb/s
Architects of Enterprise IT solutions vendor ITPOD and developer VAS Experts have created a comprehensive solution based on their own products for analyzing telecom operator network traffic. ITPod announced this on March 19, 2025. It doubled the throughput of the customer's system: from 2.5 TB/s to 5 TB/s, and also made it possible to quickly process data and build reports, which is critical for telecom representatives. The use of current protocols and storage technologies such as NVMe over TCP and all-flash DSS and DPI SCAT traffic control and analysis systems helped to achieve such results. Now the customer's system is ready to identify network problems, optimize resources and further scale.
Prior to cooperation with vendors, the telecom operator used a server-based solution with local data storage. This approach did not provide the required level of reliability, which periodically led to data losses in case of failures.
To solve this issue, the ITPOD and VAS Experts development engineers designed a large-scale architecture consisting of more than a hundred servers responsible for processing network traffic. Twenty-two QoE analytics servers are connected via Ethernet to four all-flash ITPOD Storage Full Flash storage systems and two DSS from the ITPOD Storage Hybrid line. ITPOD Storage Full Flash is based on NVMe drives that provide high IOPS. These DSS are designed to store up-to-date data that requires maximum access, report, and analyze information in real time. To store aggregated data, architects have included ITPOD Storage Hybrid hybrid DSS. Servers and storage systems are connected by a dedicated network that provides data transfer rates up to 25 Gb/s. NVMe over TCP is used to connect. The DPI SCAT platform is installed on the ITPOD servers, which provides network traffic analysis and integration with the hardware. Analytics data is stored in Namespace logical spaces allocated to DSS.
The server-based system ITPOD, SHD ITPOD Storage software and VAS Experts not only solved the problem of storing and processing large amounts of data, but also provided high reliability, performance and flexibility.
