Insurance companies began to connect to ERA-GLONASS via API to quickly resolve accidents

Insurance companies in Russia began to actively connect to the ERA-GLONASS state information system through the API to speed up the process of resolving road accidents. This became known on July 2, 2024.

According to CNews, in 3.5 months from the moment the project was launched, more than 3.6 thousand accidents involving vehicles insured in the Insurance House were checked using ERA-GLONASS. Integration with the state emergency notification system through the API allows insurers to quickly receive digital data on the time and place of accidents, which significantly increases the speed of resolving insurance events.

The new OSAGO and Casco settlement system is available for all vehicles connected to ERA-GLONASS. At the end of June 2024, the number of such cars in Russia exceeded 11 million, which is approximately 20% of the total number of vehicles in the country.

Olga Sorokina, a member of the board of directors of the VSK insurance house, noted that interaction with ERA-GLONASS through open APIs is an important step not only for the company, but also for the entire insurance industry. According to her, this allows to increase the safety of drivers and passengers, as well as significantly reduce the time for resolving accidents and simplify the entire process.

General Director of GLONASS JSC Alexei Raikevich stressed that the legally significant data of the ERA-GLONASS state information system allow insurance companies to develop existing and create new services for the convenience of millions of motorists. He also noted the prospects for the development of smart insurance for both car owners and logistics companies.

The data exchange project with ERA-GLONASS was implemented at the FinTech Association site. After successful piloting, the technology was scaled to the entire VSK company, which paves the way for other insurers to implement similar solutions.^[1]
