2021: Transfer of backbone network channels in Moscow and St. Petersburg to 100 Gbit/s

On February 18, 2022, Orange Business Services international service provider announced the completion of the second stage of the metro network upgrade (city-wide transport network) in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In these cities, the backbone links are fully converted to 100 Gb/s. Modernization also affected Orange technical centers in Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Rostov-on-Don.

Orange began a large-scale modernization of urban networks in 2020. As part of the first stage, the trunk channels or their connections of the metro networks of Moscow and St. Petersburg were expanded from 10 Gbit/s to 100 Gbit/s. In 2021, the updated Moscow main metro network combined 12 nodes. As part of the second phase, the number of nodes with 100 Gb/s equipment was increased to 18.

In St. Petersburg, Orange also updated the metro network to 100 Gbit/s and replaced equipment at eight communication nodes. The upgrade of metro networks will allow in the future to strengthen communication channels in those areas that customers need.

In, DPCs where Orange is present, hardware that supports data 100 Gb/s is also installed. In Moscow, the changes affected the racks in/, DataLine OSTNORD DataPro,, IXcellerate BSTelehouse, "Compressor," GVC RZhC, M10 and at the largest traffic exchange node MSK-IX. In St. Petersburg, the communication center in the K-12 data center has been modernized.
