2020: Plans of creation of network of the Arctic DPCs

The Rutek company reported on November 10, 2020 that it will take part in the project of the Petrozavodsk state university (Petrgu) on creation of the network of the Arctic DPCs created in the Republic of Karelia based on superdense storage systems and data processing. Rutek invests more than 300 million rubles in the project. Cooperation of the company and university is announced within the meeting of Council for development of digital economy at the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation devoted to perspectives of digital development of regions of the Arctic zone.

Formation of network of intellectual DPCs in the Arctic areas of Republic of Karelia is intended to provide development and deployment of domestic information technologies and microelectronics in storage areas and data processings on the basis of which it is supposed to create products and world-class digital services. The project is aimed at the social and economic development of both the region, and the Arctic territories of the Russian Federation. The enterprise of the innovation Petrgu complex of DPCs of Karelia LLC will become operator of the project.

Rutek will act as the industrial partner and the investor of the project, the company will develop, localizes production and will create conditions for promotion of products necessary for creation of DPC and also will carry out expert evaluation and approbation of pilot samples of these products. Participation of the company in the project is also directed to creation of conditions for emergence of high-performance jobs and training of qualified specialists to Karelia. In total within the project it is supposed to create 450 such jobs.

In total for DPC network of Karelia the Rutek company will create and will implement the localized Russian equipment and storage systems for 1000 stoykomest which volume of disk space will be 2 Ebayt. Thus, creation of network of the Arctic DPCs in Karelia will allow to increase considerably a share of Russia in the world volume of rendering services in storage and data processing, and will have significant effect on the market of services of information processing not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the world. The own production of storage systems on the basis of the Russian technologies created by Rutek company, in turn will become the important factor providing stability of the project and its development.

Among the localized equipment provided Rutek companies within cooperation – the storage systems differing in the increased density and energy efficiency which were shown within the business program of a meeting of Council for development of digital economy at the Federation Council. The high-performance storage systems developed by Rutek company based on all-flash solutions will become a crucial element of infrastructure of DPC. Advantage it systems is the reduced response time, smaller electricity consumption and low cost of data storage. In comparison with the classical solution on spindle disks (HDD), all-flash the solution of Rutek company 1,000 times faster processes information and takes 4 times less places per unit of amount.

Besides, placement of DPC network in the Arctic districts will allow to use technology of free cooling of servers freecooling. In other words, at the expense of the environment and climatic conditions which allows to cut down operating expenses and to save this cooling to 40% of the electric power. The largest IT companies of the world, such as Google and Facebook, already place the data centers near the Arctic pole. Analyzing a situation in the Russian Federation, one may say, that for November, 2020 resources of the Arctic for digital infrastructure are practically not used, at the same time the frigid northern climate of Karelia allows to refuse conditioners and fillers and to use direct or indirect freecooling (technology of cooling with an ambient air). The main idea lying in the project of the offered DPC is a use of freecooling up to 99% of time.

The Republic of Karelia by right can be considered one of the most perspective regions for development of the Russian digital and innovative technologies which IT potential in many respects creates Petrgu and his ambitious projects. Creation of large network of data centers in Karelia and localization in the region of difficult technology production also is the event significant not only for the region, but also for development of all IT sector in Russia. We, certainly, are glad to take part in this project and to make the contribution to formation in our country of own information and technology infrastructure having the high performance, fault tolerance and reliability, – the CEO of Rutek company Andrey Bezrukov told.
