2024: Pedestrian crossings with machine vision appeared in Novosibirsk

The first pedestrian crossings using machine vision technologies were introduced in Novosibirsk. This became known on June 25, 2024. New intellectual complexes installed in the Oktyabrsky and Kalininsky districts automatically respond to the approach of pedestrians, ensuring their safety on the roads.

According to the online edition NGS, these complexes are equipped with an artificial intelligence and computer vision system. When a person approaches the roadway, light boards with the inscription "Pedestrian," illumination and horizontal projection of the markup are activated. This allows drivers to notice the pedestrian in a timely manner and reduce speed, especially in the dark.

Anton Loshakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Novosibirsk Region, noted that such complexes are especially relevant in microdistricts where the installation of traffic lights is inappropriate. He stressed that "such systems are a positive global practice aimed at reducing road traffic injuries."

Three pilot complexes have been installed in Novosibirsk. In the future, their number is planned to increase. According to the online publication NGS, the project is being implemented on behalf of Governor Andrei Travnikov as part of the state program "Construction and development of the hardware and software complex" Safe City "in. In the Novosibirsk region, buses were equipped with AI video cameras to detect garbage and holes on the roads. On October 31, 2023, the Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the region, Sergei Tsukar, spoke about this pilot project.

According to him, on buses running on the roads of Novosibirsk, Berdsk and Novosibirsk district, autonomous mobile complexes of neural network analytics were installed for visual monitoring of urban facilities and landscaping. The equipment in real time analyzes the state of the road, markings, curbs, the presence of garbage, the content of road signs, the subsidence of sewer hatches, idle lights, overcrowding of garbage containers, illegal graffiti, air conditioners on the facades in the wrong places.

According to Sergey Tsukar, it is planned to create a "personal account" for the heads of municipalities of the Novosibirsk region in the information system "Safe City." According to the results of the analysis of the state of roads and urban facilities, the head of the administration and employees of specialized divisions will be able to quickly respond to alerts in the system and plan repair and restoration work. The launch of the project into mass operation in the Novosibirsk region is scheduled for 2024.

In October 2023, in the region, photo and video cameras began to be mounted at illegal landfills - the equipment fixes the license plate of violating cars, which are issued a fine. Video recording is installed on poles with a permanent power source. The video stream from two entrances is broadcast through a customized personal account, access to which is provided to employees of the regional Ministry of Natural Resources. If they find transport waste in the wrong place, the Ministry of Natural Resources specialists form a statement to the police, in which they attach photos and videos.[2]

Presentation of the square with elements of "Smart" and "Safe City" in Novosibirsk

In September, on the site of a wasteland near the metro, at the intersection of a number of pedestrian routes at once, a demo zone of a multifunctional public garden was launched: this is a green recreation place for residents of the district, and a pedestrian section safe at any time of the day, and a well-equipped platform for events - an example of creating a high-quality urban environment in a big city.
