Russian Railway used Hitachi Unified Compute Platform for deployment of SAP HANA

On August 21, 2014 the SAP CIS company and JSC "Russian Railways" announced implementation of technologies of processing of "Big Data" by means of installation of a HSS of SAP HANA.

Project Tasks

Scales and the importance of activity of business processes of JSC "Russian Railways" require powerful computing resources and high efficiency. Therefore the company made the decision oh, installation and the subsequent use of the SAP HANA system.

The pilot project on SAP implementation of HANA is directed to the solution of one of key problems of management accounting — separate accounting of income, expenses and allocation of costs on types of activity. This reporting is used for justification of rates for rail transportation therefore its accuracy and timeliness is extremely important.

Project Results

Fall forward and the accuracy of calculations was resulted in benefits for business:

• there was an opportunity in details to analyze profitability of each segment, to distribute costs, to receive subsidies in necessary volume.

Hardware project implementation

On October 2, 2014 it became known of use within an implementation project of SAP HANA of the integrated hardware and software systems Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP).

The systems of management accounting of income and expenses of the company, formation of summary tax statements, human resources accounting, accounting and tax accounting and the reporting and also separate subsystems of blocks of the management, personnel and analytical reporting are postponed for the Hitachi UCP for SAP HANA platform which part the blade servers of Compute Blade CB2000 and the disk array of the middle class HUS130 or the senior class VSP and also the Fibre Channel switches are eight-socket.

Alexey Illarionov, the vice president of the Russian Railway for information technologies and development of a management system, noted: "Request processing time to an accounting system decreased many times, and in certain cases even in hundreds of times. For example, runtime of planning features on types of activity was reduced from 842 to 33 min., planning features across territories – from 33 to 8 min. Access to base accelerated more than by 300 times — from 117 to 0.35 seconds, and performance of a subsystem of the reporting of SAP BW grew by 5 times. Besides, due to hardware compression of DWH of Hitachi the volume of the stored data was reduced three times".
