On April 12, 2024, it became known that Russian Railways is purchasing more than 9,000 automated workplaces (AWS) - personal computers with the pre-installed Russian operating system Astra Linux. The cost of the equipment will be approximately 1.5 billion rubles.

According to the Vedomosti newspaper, the project is being implemented in order to fulfill the requirements of the government decree on the minimum share of purchases of goods of Russian origin. The available computers of foreign production will be decommissioned as outdated and replaced with Russian AWS.

Russian Railways buy more than 9,000 automated jobs

The documents of Russian Railways say that the purchased AWS should include a system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse included in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. According to the terms of reference, the Russian operating system Astra Linux Special Edition must be preinstalled on the AWS, which has certificates from the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Federal Customs and Export Control Service (FSTEC) and is suitable for use at critical information infrastructure (CII) facilities. The subjects of CII include state organizations, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs who own information systems from a number of strategically important industries, including transport. Computers should also have a Yandex browser.

It is noted that domestic AWS are intended for infrastructure and management branches of Russian Railways in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod. Based on the number of purchased computers and the total cost of the project, the price of one unit is approximately 167 thousand rubles (taking into account peripherals and software licenses). The Contractor will have to deliver the AWS no later than November 25, 2024.[1]

2022: Pilot project for the transfer of automated workplaces to domestic solutions

On September 26, 2022, Greenatom (IT integrator of Rosatom) announced the implementation of a joint pilot project in Russian Railways JSC to develop a technology for transferring automated workplaces to domestic solutions.

16 branches of Russian Railways took part in the pilot project to transfer 5,000 jobs to the Astra Linux operating system. All import-replaced workplaces were successfully connected to the system of basic IT services developed by specialists of the nuclear industry. By the time of the start of the migration work, a system of basic IT services for managing the import-independent infrastructure of the AWS was developed and put into commercial operation.

As a result of the project, Russian Railways has a system of services that completely replaces similar services MS Windows and includes a directory service subsystem, basic network services (s) DNS , DHCP configuration management, PERSONAL COMPUTER update and distribution management, and exchange ON. files

The contractor transferred all the results of intellectual activity, technical and user documentation for registration of the system in Rospatent and further registration in the register of domestic software. Under the terms of the contract, Greenatom will provide technical support to the system during the warranty period.

A subsidiary of Russian Railways-TechService LLC provided significant support in the migration process in the context of the wide geography of the project.

The project office created for its implementation has organized interaction with domestic companies to develop information systems in the interests of Russian Railways that are not inferior to foreign counterparts in functionality and reliability.

During this time, the company's specialists analyzed and tested over 200 domestic software products and platforms for various purposes, including electronic document management and data management systems, EAM and ERP systems, office systems and antispam products, etc. The software products that have passed load testing are approved for further operation in the holding's information infrastructure.
