Roskosmos and the Ministry of Natural Resources agreed about space monitoring of the woods, addresses with waste and ecology

On October 26, 2020 the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation and Roskosmos announced creation of a system of digital space monitoring. It is intended for effective control of forest exploitation, the address with waste and environmental control using the remote sensing of Earth (RSE) from space.

The activity of economic entities and potential economic effect of their activity is supposed that the new technology will allow to obtain information on a status and the status of use of natural resources and lands in a foreground mode, to trace.

Roskosmos and the Ministry of Natural Resources agreed about creation of a system for space monitoring of the woods and the address with waste and ecology

Together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation we will adjust the system of digital space inspection of the natural resources of our country and the objects of special attention which are doing harm to the environment or influenced negative impact of pollutants. For this purpose in parallel with development of orbital grouping we improve land infrastructure — the CEO of Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin said during working meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kobylkin.

Earlier Rogozin spoke about need of almost double increase in number of satellites for high-precision monitoring of the woods in the Russian Federation — from 8 to 15 pieces.

According to Kobylkin, creation of a single system of space monitoring will allow to prevent natural cataclysms and accidents of technogenic character and also to ensure big environmental safety of the country.

Work is difficult, but I am absolutely convinced that thanks to joint work we will adjust this system … The ecological agenda is universal and concerns each citizen, and the ecology subject any more will never fade into the background — the minister told.

In addition to Kobylkin and Rogozin, at a meeting there were representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation Roshydromet, the enterprises "Russian space systems" and "Terra of Those".^[1]
