2024: Warehouse automation in St. Petersburg

AXELOT helped automate the warehouse at the ESTEL plant in St. Petersburg. Axelot announced this on March 4, 2024.

Thanks to the capabilities of the AXELOT project methodology, as well as the functionality and flexibility of AXELOT WMS, the ESTEL project team was able to quickly create its own "competence center" and independently run the system with debugging all automated business processes in a short time.

One of the factors affecting the speed of production is production logistics. The plant must be regularly and timely provided with raw materials, monitor the quality of these raw materials and its storage conditions. The company's management decided to migrate to a more modern WMS system that implements the necessary functionality in full. AXELOT WMS was selected for implementation. Work on the project was carried out jointly by AXELOT specialists and the project team from ESTEL.

During the warehouse survey, AXELOT specialists identified a number of features of business processes that were taken into account in the implemented functionality of AXELOT WMS. Such features include, for example, the absence of typed packages: the same product is supplied by different suppliers, each of which has its own packaging (barrels of different sizes, canisters, etc.). WMS has set up the ability to work with different package variants during warehouse operations. The project team set up data exchange between WMS and the Corporate Information System (CIS) using the DATAREON integration solution.

For some non-warehouse users of the enterprise information system, for example, laboratory employees, it is possible to manage the availability of batches in WMS. This allows you to exclude blocked batches from the FEFO reservation, and the production does not take raw materials that have not passed the laboratory check.

The acceptance of intermediates and finished products for shipment through the raw material warehouse is automated, such goods are not recalculated upon receipt, they are automatically transferred to the balance of the desired warehouse on command from the corporate system.

The introduction of AXELOT WMS made it possible to digitize warehouse transactions. Detailed information, which includes execution time, performer, warehouse analytics for a specific item unit, is recorded in real time in WMS and is available for viewing and analysis and for automatic planning purposes.

Inventory can be carried out at any time, both at the command of the AXELOT WMS operator and at the decision of the senior storekeeper. Discrepancies found during the recalculation are automatically recorded in a specialized ledger and are available for upload to the corporate information system.

The AXELOT design methodology does not exclude an approach in which the customer can fully work with the system even before it is put into commercial operation to create his own "competence center." This opportunity was used by the ESTEL project team, whose specialists were deeply involved in the project - they gradually got acquainted with the functionality of the solution, tested various scenarios of work and offered their own options for setting up business processes. User training was also conducted on real operations - as part of warehouse shipments.

All this allowed ESTEL, even during the project, to form its own competence center for working with AXELOT WMS within the company, which will allow them to further independently resolve issues on setting up the system for changes in business processes.

The solutions offered by AXELOT provided ESTEL with the opportunity to quickly adapt the warehouse to any market changes.
