2017: Suspension of issue of the newspaper for three weeks in August

The RBC media holding in August, 2017 suspended a release of the daily RBC newspaper to three weeks, several interlocutors in holding told Kommersant. The press service of RBC specified that the company adheres to "the diagram of a release of the newspaper which was approved at the end of 2016".

"The pause in August was planned and connected with a low season both for the market, and for our audience" — the representative of RBC explained.

Earlier even in times of summer suspensions of issue of the RBC newspaper, crisis for the advertizing market (before RBC daily) was not, the co-founder of RBC, the director of investments of TMT Investments Artem Inyutin claims. Can integrate bands in low seasons of the newspaper or in a case with the magazine to issue dual numbers, he notes.

2016: The editor-in-chief Maxim Solyus leaves RBC

"This policy and, in particular, my continuance in office of the Chief Editor of the RBC newspaper, reduce chances of a happy end of "a dispute of economic entities" for all business of Prokhorov", - Solyus considers.

Change of editors of RBC was the solution of the management of RBC holding, the CEO of RBC Nikolay Molibog confirmed to Vedomosti. On this matter he refused any other comments.

"Recently we talked much how further to develop RBC, and in this talk could not come to a consensus as regards important issues therefore made the decision to leave. I want to thank Elizabeth, Roman and Maxim for work and for a contribution to development of the company", said in the official statement of RBC from his name.

According to the source Vedomosti in RBC, at first the decision on leaving Solyusa, Osetinskaya and Badanin was made send away from solidarity with it. "New personnel appointments in structure of media projects of RBC it will be announced later", - the company reported.

The last several months pressure upon RBC amplified. As reported to Vedomosti sources in holding, the staff of Presidential Administration and the governments tried to obtain from company management and its shareholder Mikhail Prokhorov of change of editorial policy. First of all officials did not accept investigations of RBC about the people close to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, in particular about the expected daughter of Putin Ekaterina Tikhonova. Two interlocutors close to RBC say that they the first dismissed Solyus as officials got used to read the paper newspaper, but not the website of RBC where materials appeared initially.

2015: Warning from Roskomnadzor for a caricature of the prophet Muhammad

The newspaper received a warning of Roskomnadzor for the publication on January 15, 2015 in article of the photo which, according to Roskomnadzor, offended religious feelings of Muslims. According to the managing director of holding Elizabeth Osetinskaya, on a photo there was a pile of the Charlie Hebdo magazines on which cover the crying prophet Muhammad, but not directly drawing was represented. Also she noted that the official position of Roskomnadzor according to the image of caricatures in media was published only on January 16.

Roskomnadzor answered it that "the image of a notorious cover Charlie Hebdo is "the photo of a pile of newspapers" only for those who just arrived from other planet and has no idea of the concept "context". For all others "this cover contains a caricature of the prophet Muhammad whose any image is offensive in Muslim cultural tradition" — representatives of department on its page on Facebook explained.

The management of RBC intends to appeal against warning in court.

2014

Change of the name from RBC daily on RBC

In October, 2014 the newspaper was renamed into RBC.

Maxim Solyus is a new editor-in-chief instead of Pyotr Kiryan

On February 27, 2014 it became known that since April 1, 2014 the RBC daily newspaper instead of Pyotr Kiryan will be headed by the new Chief Editor — Maxim Solyus of Vedomosti where he worked about 10 years at a position of the deputy chief editor, long read was engaged, supervised telecoms and consumer market.

"A maxim strongly I respect and I believe that together we will be able to make this break here" — the managing director of RBC holding Elizabeth Osetinskaya wrote on the page on Facebook. Madam Osetinskaya earlier herself worked in Vedomosti which headed as the Chief Editor in 2007-2010. The managing director of RBC she became since January 15, 2014.

Lavrukhin: The newspaper is going to be saved

From an interview of the CEO of RBC Sergey Lavrukhin to the Gazeta.ru edition (January, 2013)[1]:

- If to compare the website RBC daily to competitors on an indicator of day audience, then it is the first. The holding structure of business, certainly, affects results therefore when to me ask whether the newspaper will be closed, I answer that we are not going to close it because it is an important part of our media assets integrated by a uniform brand of RBC. And today we – the only media holding which has assets in different segments. It is a unique case using which we can offer advertisers different combinations of media carriers for their target audience.
- Change one newspaper for another?
  • On Vedomosti? What for? It is the good newspaper, but it is done and done by specific people, including those which work for us now. Therefore when speak "change one for another", maybe, people need to be changed: take the best, strengthen a command, train the personnel, not be afraid to experiment? And always a big question, what is better: buy ready business or the people capable to improve your product, or to start new, based on past experience and knowledge.


- It is possible to specify the strategy of development for the newspaper offered by Sauyer? Whether change of the staff list, change of leadership team is supposed? Whether reduction of investments is supposed?

  • The leadership team will not be changed, most likely. Pyotr Kiryan is the Chief Editor of the joint edition. Its command works both for the newspaper, and for its online version. The newspaper does not need investments: it is self-sufficient and pays off, including at the expense of the online version. Derk actively participates in development of strategy, but daily operational solutions are not included into his power – he makes only recommendations. In particular, he does not make the decision on I will hire or to dismissal employees, only I can make such decisions. At us with it accurate differentiation of powers.


- What you see editorial policy? Whether there are enough journalists?

  • Before New year we dismissed several people. Now in staff of 90 employees. But always the main issue in the one who these people. At the CEO of IDES of RBC of Alexey Fedorov and Pyotr Kiryan a task to gather the strongest team and to create interesting and qualitative content.


- Whether Mikhail Prokhorov participates in editorial work?

  • Prokhorov called two times for all 2012 when materials which drew its attention already came out. He never called and did not write the letter with a request not to start up material in printing.

Sauer asks Bershidsky to help consultations

In April, 2013 Leonid Bershidsky reported that he will help the new president of RBC Derk Sauer with updating of holding:

Myasnikova about fight against invited papers

Increase quality of some products, change reputation of RBC which was bad as regards the RBC daily newspaper...

I eat: — Persistence of rumors that at the edition there are custom materials, and it for the business newspaper — serious reputation loss. Of course, such rumors went both about Vedomosti, and about Kommersant. But about Vedomosti it was told once a year and without proofs. In case of RBC daily it was, one may say, general opinion. A problem of edition — to rebuild the edition so that similar became impossible. And they successfully work on it. However, it is not the most important task. Task number one in which I am engaged not so much, how many Derk Sauer, a research of opportunities of new partnership agreements and investments. One more task — structuring and business development. In RBC, in addition to the business Internet and editions, there was a huge number of small businesses — the female website, video, advertizing platforms. In total names twenty. It would be desirable to make of twenty "small doggies" one big layfstaylovy (not business) platform. If something does not lay down there, and at the same time does not make profit, it should be sold or closed. And accurately to separate products under a brand of RBC from the entertaining websites. RBC needs to be brought into accord with one main concept — the leader of business information. At the same time cars, the real estate, even a male fashion enter a focus of interest of the businessman, and tights do not. Only — business and lifestyle of business people, toys of businessmen with which they are busy in free time, as the annex to the business publication, but not "devochkin the website".

I eat: — For me would be as a knife in heart — to learn with proofs that in "Sanom the Independent of Media" someone really was engaged in placement for money. But I understand what you speak about. It is impossible to exclude anything. It as faith in God. You can trust, can not trust, but with printing anybody has no reference. The management spirit is important. If I obtain the evidence once, I will insist on immediate dismissal of the guilty person. Though editorial support, of course exists in any non-business editions, even the most fair and noble. If, for example, the large advertiser of Chanel has the advertizing contract with your magazine, then, representing bags of a new season, strange and silly to bypass this fashion house. For two reasons. The first — bags are devilishly good, the second — you should not offend the favourite advertiser. But all this not money in a personal pocket of the editor, and the certain not spoken system of the relations. In the business press in a different way, the big contract is not a reason for regular positive illumination of the advertiser.

ABOUT: — What else is necessary business for media?

I eat: — As well as to all other — exclusivity of information from the top officials, but not packs of press releases on a band. Check of the facts through several sources. It for many a problem. As for commerce, in RBC a lot of things are already made for "cleaning" of a brand. Work began even last spring when there the new CEO Sergey Lavrukhin, the new commercial director Stas Povolotsky came. All of us got used to earn by advertizing sales, but not custom materials.

ABOUT: — Data of the website Medialogiya testify — RBC daily takes the fifth place on quoting among printing editions. You happy with this result? It seems to me that it is very good.

But in general, in my opinion, quoting not such important thing as rating, cliques, traffic, circulation, audience. 2012

The newspaper in 2012 received small negative EBITDA, but there is an online version of the newspaper — the website RBC daily which with interest covers these losses. The CEO of RBC Sergey Lavrukhin to the Gazeta.ru edition (January, 2013)[1].

2011

The RBC newspaper of daily in 2011 grew by 45% (at the same time remained unprofitable) whereas the market grew for 7 — 8%. In 2012 RBC daily will get a profit (Herman Kaplun, April, 2012). The average audience of one number (AIR) of the business newspaper "RBC daily" in Moscow during the period from May to October, 2011 made 76 thousand people. On this indicator of RBC daily is the second most popular business newspaper in Moscow. In addition, the newspaper has a broad base of readers on the Internet: the monthly Russian audience of the website Rbcdaily.ru on the end of the year reached 3.5 million people, having increased in a year by 59%.
