2024: Light industry of the Ivanovo region grew by 18% over the year and reached ₽160,1 billion
The volume of shipped products of light industry enterprises in the Ivanovo region in 2024 increased by 18% and amounted to more than ₽160,1 billion. Deputy Prime Minister of the region Yulia Vasilyeva announced this in April 2025.
According to the press service of the government of the Ivanovo region, the region retains a share of 16% of the total volume of shipped textile and clothing products in the Russian Federation. Yulia Vasilyeva noted that in traditionally strong positions - home textiles, gauze, overalls - the Ivanovo region retained its leadership.
At the end of 2024, the region continues to maintain its leadership in Russia in the production of certain types of light industry products. The enterprises of the Ivanovo region account for 95% of the production of Russian medical gauze, 80% of cotton fabrics, 78% of bed linen, 74% of knitted or knitted fabrics, 65% of pile fabrics, 57% of overalls, 31% of knitted or knitted linen.
In the structure of industrial production of the region, the share of the textile industry occupies 40%. The number of small and medium-sized businesses registered in the Ivanovo region in light industry increased by 7% over the year and amounted to more than 3.9 thousand units. This is 9% of the total number of SMEs in the region.
The average number of employees employed in the production of textiles and clothing in the Ivanovo region amounted to 26.9 thousand people, or 39.8% of the total number of employees in industry. The volume of investments in fixed assets for large organizations in the production of textiles and clothing in January - December 2024 reached almost ₽3,3 billion.
In 2024, the Ivanovo region strengthened its position as the center of traditional cotton production and production of knitted fabrics. The development of high-tech sectors of light industry continues.[1]

History

Ascension Church (Church of the Ascension of the Lord) is a lost Orthodox church in Ivanovo. It was founded in 1848 by order of a number of local manufacturers according to the project of the famous Russian architect - Konstantin Andreevich Ton, author of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Like the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the church was built in the Russo-Byzantine style. The temple was completed and consecrated in 1851.
In 1928, a library was opened in the temple building. Later, the temple was demolished.
