But these figures [production of 50-70 thousand cars] turned out to be more than the market could objectively take. Therefore, it was decided to release less than previously planned, - he explained in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

Kaliningrad Avtotor produced 38 thousand cars in a year

At the beginning of 2023, Avtotor announced plans to produce about 100 thousand cars for that year (this forecast was the main one for the holding) and with a pessimistic one - about 70 thousand. But already in June 2023, the basis for the automaker was the forecast for the production of 70 thousand cars by the end of the year, and the holding considered the level of 100 thousand cars only in the event of market growth. Avtotor also noted difficulties with the delivery of components from China. At the end of 2022, the automaker produced just over 60 thousand cars. Plans for 2024, announced in June 2023, amounted to 100 thousand cars.

According to Valery Gorbunov, in 2023 Avtotor managed to create a base for moving forward: long-term contracts with new partners were signed, production was converted, in general, there was a transition to a completely new business model with the preservation of obligations under a special investment contract (SPIC).

The press service of Avtotor added that the holding has more than doubled its investment obligations on SPIC for the development of production, production of cars and auto components, signed with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the government of the Kaliningrad region.

Today they amount to more than 70 billion rubles. These changes in the SPIC have already been approved, the press service said in early February 2024, adding that previously the company's investment obligations amounted to 32 billion rubles.[1]

Start assembling Chinese trucks instead of Hyundai

The Russian Avtotor plant has launched the production of Chinese trucks. Deputy General Director Alexei Khramtsovsky spoke about this in March 2023.

According to him, the assembly of trucks is carried out in pilot mode. Cars are assembled at the same section of the Avtotor production site, where cars of the same Hyundai HD class were previously made. The start of full-scale production of Chinese trucks is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023, by which time certification should end.

By the end of the year, Autotor should release 5 thousand trucks of three Chinese brands

Who became Avtotor's partner in this project is not reported, but it is known that in total the Kaliningrad company has concluded agreements on the assembly of trucks with three Chinese brands. By the end of 2023, Avtotor plans to produce 5 thousand trucks of all these brands. The plant also plans to produce at least 1,000 electric trucks this year.

Avtostat Igor Morzharetto, partner of the analytical agency "," believes that there will be a buyer for the products of the Kaliningrad plant, since many competitors have left the Russian market.

"In the early 2000s, Avtotor sold Kia cars itself, but since then everything has changed. At the same time, now a huge number of dealers are left without work. And finding some kind of network or company that will take on the sale of certain brands is not a problem. Another thing is whether the plant itself will want to do this or instruct someone else. This is a matter of business, all options are possible. Of course, "Autotor" will be difficult, but he has no choice. This is one of the largest automobile assembly enterprises in Russia, which is designed to produce up to 250 thousand cars a year, "he said in a conversation with Kommersant FM[3]

2022: Start assembling Chinese cars of three brands

At the Russian Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, where BMW, Kia, Hyundai cars were previously assembled, the production of cars from Chinese manufacturers began. This was announced on December 13, 2022 by the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Anton Alikhanov.

Happy to say: "Autotor" is back at work. Indeed, three Chinese companies have entered into agreements with them, and the assembly is already underway, last week it began, "he said, adding that he cannot yet make the names of the brands public.

Avtotor has begun assembling Chinese cars of three brands

According to Alikhanov, by the end of 2022 the company plans to produce from 1.5 to 2 thousand cars. Avtotor's production plan for 2023 provides for the production of at least 50 thousand cars, and if new partners are attracted, this figure may be 100 thousand cars.

As Sheets the newspaper "" wrote earlier, citing its sources, the Chinese state automaker BAIC and Kaliningrad Avtotor are agreeing on the assembly of cars and may soon sign a cooperation agreement. The most likely model for localization Russia in is the BAIC D50/U5 mid-size sedan, equipped with a 1.5 liter gasoline engine with a 150 hp turbocharger, or an electric motor. However, BAIC is not the only automaker with China which Avtotor is negotiating - among the potential partners of the enterprise are also named units. Chery

According to Avtostat, in early October 2022, Avtotor began work on reconfiguring the conveyor and preparing for the launch of production of cars of new brands. In 2023, the plant also plans to start producing electric vehicles and engines for them. The construction of 8 plants is being completed at the new production site, investments in which will amount to more than 5.7 billion rubles.[4]

2021

Production of electric vehicles

At the end of September 2021, it became known that Avtotor will produce electric vehicles and components for them, which will also be exported.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as part of an addition to a special investment contract (SPIC) with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the government of the Kaliningrad region, Avtotor will increase investments by 20 billion rubles. Thus, the actual amount of costs for the implementation of SPIC obligations will amount to 32 billion rubles.

On the localization of electric vehicles, Avtotor works both with its traditional partners - Hyundai and Kia, and with several other manufacturers, a representative of the Russian company told Vedomosti, without specifying the names of other partners. By the end of September 2021, three projects are in development, which of them will reach practical implementation is not yet clear, he added.

Avtotor will be engaged in the production of electric vehicles for 32 billion rubles

In a conversation with TASS, the chairman of the board of directors of Avtotor Valery Gorbunov said that the plant plans to start producing cars with electric and gas engines with a range of 400 km in 2024. The cost of the car will be up to 1.5 million rubles.

File:Aquote1.png
We set such a limit bar, but everything will depend on the volume of production and other factors, including the conditions for the supply of components. We are still in negotiations with component manufacturers on these issues, "he said.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade says that passenger and light commercial vehicles of their own design at the Avtotor plant will appear in 2023, 200 first copies will be produced. Sales will begin in August 2024. In 2024, the first electric vehicles for people with limited mobility will be released.

The company intends to create a lineup based on a single platform, including a pickup truck, a minibus and a version for people with disabilities. The car is planned to be created using the Russian component base.[5]

BMW cuts production of five models

In March 2021, it became known that BMW is reducing the production of five models at the Kaliningrad auto-assembly plant Avtotor. The reduction in production is due to considerations of economic inexpediency. The plant will continue to produce only three BMW models in 2021, with a total volume of about 12 thousand cars, the rest will be transferred to imported supplies from the American automobile plant.
